Very disappointing experience with Cohen’s Optical on Ditmars. I placed and paid for an order of tinted prescription glasses on April 24, 2026. Weeks later, I still had no glasses and received no proactive communication from the store. On May 7, when I called for an update, the order initially could not even be found in the system. I was promised a callback that never happened. After calling back myself, I was told the lab only received the order on Monday because April 24 was a Friday, that orders can take up to 10 days, and that the glasses would arrive "next week" and I would be contacted for pickup. On Thursday, May 14, after still hearing nothing, I called again and received multiple conflicting explanations in a single day: first that not enough time had passed, then that the glasses might already be completed but sitting at another location because the owner/manager personally handles deliveries, then that the manager was supposedly out of the country on family emergency, and later that the manager was actually in the store.I was ultimately told the lenses were back ordered and still being made because they were "custom", despite this being a fairly standard prescription. What I found most disturbing was not even the delay itself, but the complete lack of transparency and the repeated promises of callbacks that never happened. Every follow-up required me to chase the store myself. After losing confidence in the process, I requested a refund and was told to come back on Monday "next week" for it. Since I paid by credit card, it was unclear why my physical presence was required just to process a refund. I ultimately disputed the charge with my credit card company. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting your prescription filled elsewhere and avoiding this location altogether.

To whom it may concern: Today I am once again at this optical center, trying to get an update regarding my eyeglasses, which I ordered on November 18th and have still not received, despite being told they would be ready within 10 days. I am unable to get any clear information. The owners are nowhere to be found, and the only person present is the same lady who, from the beginning, has shown a rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional attitude, refusing to provide a solution or coherent information about my glasses or a refund. Due to the complete lack of response, I am now forced to remain here waiting for the police, whom I have already contacted in order to help resolve this issue. I am adding this statement so that any person with authority in this store, including the owners or an actual manager, can take immediate responsibility for this situation. I expect an urgent and formal resolution. Sincerely, Jean Menezes To whom it may concern, I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the service I have received at your optical center. On November 18, I placed an order for a frame with my prescription, and I was informed that it would be ready within approximately 10 days. However, it has now been over 15 days, and I have not received any update or resolution. Throughout this entire week, I have tried to obtain information about my order, but I have not received any calls, follow-ups, or communication from your staff. Additionally, the woman working at the store —who claims to be the manager— has treated me inappropriately. Her behavior has been: • Rude • Intolerant • Disrespectful • Inconsistent with the information provided • Unwilling to help or offer any solutions I am extremely concerned about the lack of professionalism and the complete absence of communication regarding an order that is already significantly overdue. I kindly request that someone responsible contact me as soon as possible to resolve this matter and ensure the immediate delivery of my glasses or an appropriate alternative solution. Thank you for your prompt attention. Sincerely, Jean Menezes
Extremely nice staff — I went in all anxious (last eye doc appt I went to was a disaster) but they were all really calming and sweet. I’ll definitely go back! Greatly appreciated the service :)
Avoid this location. I made an appointment two weeks in advance only to arrive and be told they don’t accept my insurance—despite being explicitly told over the phone that they did. Only after I pushed for clarification was I informed that this location is a franchise and can selectively decide which branches of an insurance carrier they accept. That very important detail was never mentioned when I called. Instead, I was immediately pitched an out-of-pocket option: pay a minimum of $120 and they’d “generously” waive the $75 exam fee. Meanwhile, I actually have insurance that should have been accepted had they been upfront. This was a complete waste of time and feels intentionally misleading. There are multiple local optical providers literally across the street—do yourself a favor and go to one of them instead. I certainly will next time. Lesson learned
Fortress of procrastination and Anti-sanitation. They've been promising me prescribed glasses for A YEAR. Their doctor did my eye-checking with bare hands with no gloves, dirty nails, no Purell. Dust, dirt, smell inside the eye-checking office, old equipment. Never recommend.
