I had a negative experience with this practice. Was not impressed with any aspect of this practice. It was determined that I need cataract surgery. This was suspect to me. When they showed me the schedule, they asked me to pick a day for surgery within a three month period with Dr Beshear , it was completely open. Weird! I decided to get a second opinion by Dr. Cavanaugh and as I suspected, I do not need surgery. I feel scammed.

I had a Corneal transplant 6 years ago and they did a great job. It is holding up well. I was told I needed one to the other eye. I was not necessarily seeing that big of a problem yet. I was given no explanation. We went to Dr. Doane at Discover eye center and I was given explanations and pictures. There was a lot of hassle at Cokington, but none at Discover and they did a super job on my transplant! Dr. Parsons works with him and is super as well. All the staff is very, very helpful! Offices in Leawood, Lees Summit and Independence.

A warning to seniors and their families: beware of deceptive upfront charges and the refusal to refund overpayments. Prior to my cataract surgery in June 2025, the medical provider (Cokingtin Eye Center / Overland Park Eye Surgery Center) required me to prepay the full cost out-of-pocket—totaling $6,100—claiming that my insurance did not cover the procedures. In accordance with their demands, I paid $3,870 to Cokingtin and $2,230 to the Overland Park Eye. However, the subsequent processing and formal determination of the claim by UnitedHealthcare (UHC) conclusively refuted their dishonest assertions. However, UnitedHealthcare’s subsequent processing and formal adjudication of the claims have factually refuted this dishonest assertion. According to the finalized Explanation of Benefits (EOB) on the UHC portal, my true contractually designated financial responsibility ("Your Share") across all claims is capped at exactly $4,400.00. As an in-network provider, they are legally and contractually obligated to abide by the insurance network rates. Mathematically, they have overcollected exactly $1,700.00 of my money ($6,100 prepaid - $4,400 true responsibility). Yet, when my daughter called to request a refund, their billing department abruptly refused to return the money. They have held $1,700.00 of my unearned funds for over a year. If you or your elderly parents are getting surgery here, double-check your EOBs closely. They will force you to prepay big sums upfront based on dishonest claims, and pocket the overpayment unless you fight them.

Very kind receptionist. Area was nice. Waiting area seats were uncomfortable for sitting more than an hour. Need to update.

Everyone was very nice. A positive shout out to the scheduler who made my appointment. I would have rated them higher if they would have explained changes in my eyes instead of telling me and then popping up ready to be done. The assisting staff never introduced themselves and I think they were training someone new or a student?? They even opened up the door wide open while I was trying to ask questions. Privacy? But overall, nice clean office, and friendly people.
