I was very disappointed with my experience. I was informed that using my CareCredit card would result in an additional 20% charge. Not only was I expected to pay that extra amount, but I would also have had to finance that additional 20% through CareCredit, meaning I could potentially pay interest on the surcharge as well. I work at a local dental office that also accepts CareCredit, and we do not pass processing costs on to our patients. Because of this, the policy felt excessive and unfair. The staff was pleasant and very kind, but the unexpected charge was enough for me to reconsider purchasing glasses for myself and my two children. My understanding is that under the CareCredit Provider Agreement, participating providers are generally not permitted to pass CareCredit processing fees directly on to cardholders in the form of a surcharge, convenience fee, or finance charge. For that reason, I was surprised by the additional 20% fee and would encourage the office to review this policy. Patients should be made aware of any additional fees upfront so they can make informed decisions before committing to treatment or purchases
