Dr. Deanna Gates is the best eye doctor I’ve had in my lifetime. During my annual eye exam She diagnosed a seriously torn/detached retina injury I’d, unknowingly, suffered while playing pickleball. The ball ricocheted off my paddle and into my eye. Her diagnosis was approximately one week before we were flying out for vacation. I had no symptoms. And was unaware I’d been injured. She warned me that If I flew out on a jet before seeing the specialist and having my detached retina laser repaired, I could lose my sight in the eye. The specialist successfully reattached my retina. And we made our vacation flight! As a result, I stopped wearing contacts and started wearing my glasses while playing pickleball. So as to avoid a repeat injury.

Three of us decided to try Lifetime Eyecare Associates. When we went in, everyone was friendly enough, but we were never asked about having the optional Optomap retinal screening, which cost each of us 50$, insurance did pick up 11$. It had been awhile since any of us had one, so I did not think much of it. When I saw the Optometrist, she went over everything and told me I needed to redo one of the test because I failed it, and needed to reschedule, fair enough, so I made another appointment. My wife said she did ths same test and her person had told her the machine was not working correctly, so she she stopped the test. When I returned to redo the "test", I was told there would be three charges for 245$, that may or may not be covered by insurance, I asked if we could call to verify if it would be covered, and was told, they normally never answer. Remember, I was told to come back and redo something that I did not originally do well on, and my wife's tech, said the machine was not working correctly, but now, I needed what appeared to be three other tests, that would cost me 245$??!?! Really?? If you want to up charged for everything, this is your place. I for one will not be back. Be honest and up front with your billing, if it's optional, say so up front and not try to make it sound like it is just a routine charge. We already paid ~150$ for optional items on the first visit, but I certainly was not about to pay an additional 245$ to redo one eye test. The way it was presented, made me question myself before I remembered it was an item I was asked to return to do. I wish we had read other reviews before we went here, it seems they do not ask about optional charges, they just make it seem like it's necessary and you need to pay it. Just WOW!! Read some of the other reviews.
The standard of care here with Dr. Claudio Luganas is by far superior to what any other optometry practice has to offer. The equipment is so advanced, and they really care about their patients. I highly recommend this for your next eyeglasses/contacts exam, or dry eye treatment. All the doctors are wonderful and caring, Dr. Monique Adams-Derouen, Dr. Deanna Gates, Dr. Michelle Melchor, and Dr. Grisel Lagunas. Overall a 5 Star Experience. Also, the new office they moved into is beautiful, bright, and clean.
Dr Deanna Gates is absolutely fantastic! And the staff is great. However charging a "professional fee" on top of normal fees is crap regardless of method of payment! "Kindly note that in order for us to continue to maintain the highest standard of care, a 3.5% Professional Service Fee will be applied to all of our services and products provided." I received the notification the morning of my appointment
Very disappointed with my first visit and ended up walking out. First, they have a sign that they are going to charge 3.5% fee to cover the cost of their "advanced technologies". Not optional. Second, they had me do a finger scan as soon as I signed in. I was informed that the doctor would explain why, but I never saw the doctor. I believe the finger scan was part of the "cartenoid/antioxident" scams. There's no legitimate reason to scan my finger by an opthimologist. Third, they forced me to do the Optos retinal scan. I was not offered dilation in its place. I found the Optos scan very discomforting. It immediately caused temporary vision loss. Not a little blurry or light sensitivity like dilation, but full black spots. Took about 2 hours for the vision loss to resolve. I only allowed them to partially scan one eye before I refused to continue. After expressing my discomfort and requesting an alternative, I was told no. I must have the Optos scan. Since they were not respecting my concerns and I felt like I was being lied to, I walked out. I went to TSO and completed my regular eye exam without scams and with dilation instead of Optos. At TSO, I was asked during check-in if I wanted to pay extra for Optos or use normal dilation instead. LEA refused to give me the option of regular dilation. Since I did not complete my exam, no telling what other scams I would have encountered.
