Although I am fine with the care provided by the optometrist at NJ Eye Center, Main Fashion Optical is disappointing. I chose to shop for frames there since it is convenient to my optometrist and not part of a big conglomerate (i.e. Lenscrafters), even though it's 30 minutes from my home. I needed two pair, progressives and computer glasses. It took a while to find frames since I'm not into trends or designer brands, so the staff let me know what I would be responsible for after my VSP insurance was applied. I selected fairly priced frames but was very surprised to spend over $800 in total because of all the add-ons, some of which I declined so it could've cost even more. I was aware of my options and went ahead with the purchase, hopeful I'd made a good decision. A week later I picked up the glasses, tried both on, and was sent on my way without anyone evaluating whether the fit was OK. Within days I realized one pair were slipping too much so I made another 30 minute trip to Bergenfield for an adjustment. I explained why I was there and my glasses were promptly taken from me and given to someone in the back room (lab?). Ten minutes later a woman emerged with my glasses in hand so I explained to her why I was there and what the problem was. She said she'd already adjusted them, without even seeing me! I've never had a "fitting" like this and was in disbelief that an optical shop would operate this way. Within a few days I knew I needed more adjustments, but instead of going out of my way to Bergenfield I went to an optician close to home, where I was fortunate to see an expert fitter who spent about 20 minutes with me to make sure the fit was perfect, all at no cost to me. I will definitely consider purchasing eyewear from that optician next time rather than Main Fashion Optical.
