I have been going to Mason Eye clinic for Decades. Dr. Austin has continued the high quality personable service as did his father. Up to date equipment and eyewear choices. I live in Sarasota and continue to see Dr. Austin in St. Petersburg because of the high quality eye exam. Everything is explained and all questions encouraged and answered. I feel my precious vision is well protected at Mason Eye Clinic.

Highly recommend this family owned practice. This is a Father & Son office that has served the community over 25 years. Very thorough.

Dr John Mason is an excellent eye doctor. He takes the time to listen to any concerns you have. He takes the time to explain your personal eye issues in detail. Office personnel are friendly and efficient in addressing any needs you may have. I love the fact they many of the personnel have been the same for the 5 years I've been going to his office. Thank you for doing an excellent job!

The front staff is always great. I came in for my scheduled appointment for my annual exam and found out I didn't have an appointment..... I was reminded that I had called in to cancel because I already had an appointment with another Dr the same day. I forgot to reschedule and forgot to remove this appointment from my calendar. They were very understanding and accommodating. They told me if I wanted to stick around for about 10 minutes, they could probably get me in. It went smooth, I did some online banking that needed to be done, perfect timing, I had my appointment, and it went great. They are a good example of teamwork! Thanks again. Chuck

I came here as a new patient and saw Dr. Mason for what I expected to be a routine eye exam. The staff was very nice, and Dr. Mason was professional and pleasant to work with. However, I was surprised by the cost — $140 even with good insurance (apparently the cost without it was over $200), and I didn’t even purchase contacts. I called to have further insight of the charges and was told the eye exam was no charge however the charge was for a “contact lens fitting for astigmatism,” but that wasn’t clearly explained to me beforehand. From what I experienced during the exam, it didn’t feel any different from a standard eye exam I’ve had at other places and I’ve never paid this much, even with worse insurance. It would have made a big difference to be told ahead of time that additional services were being done that would raise the cost. I understand that $140 may not seem like a lot to some, but for a basic eye exam without purchasing any products, it felt unexpectedly high. I appreciated the friendly care, but unfortunately I hoped there would’ve been better transparency about pricing.
