Efficient office, short wait times, and knowledgeable providers—no complaints about the quality of care. However, the billing practices are unacceptable. As a contact lens wearer, I was charged for additional services that were never explained in advance, nor was I given the chance to consent. These charges were also not applied during my exams the last THREE years, and I was wearing my lenses during those exams as well. It seems arbitrary and up to the discretion of the provider on when they will charge extra for lens services. I am fine with the office having a policy on this. The issue is that policy needs to be clearly stated and posted in the office. We don’t sometimes charge and sometimes not, and then not inform the patient upfront about when that will occur. And the audacity to wait until I LEAVE the office from my appointment without so much as a conversation about the additional cost, only to lick a stamp and mail me a bill the next day. Patients should not be surprised with itemized bills after the fact. Clear, upfront communication about costs is essential.

Information at the front desk was not clear about what would and would not be covered under the exam and so tried to charge me an additional $90 on top of my routine exam copay. I understand that signs are technically posted but they should absolutely verbalize what is and is not included in a routine examination when I called to have a routine examination. Also would not give me my prescription unless I paid the total balance at the end of my appointment. Will not be going back.
I just had my annual Eye Exam. This was the most comprehensive exam I have ever had with NJREC. They have new diagnostic tools that take pictures of your eyes, check the retina and look at the blood vessels. I've never experienced anything like this before. Dr. Hauck then brought it all together and told me I was doing great and went on to perform a manual evaluation the old fashioned way with light and magnifying equipment. Dr. Hauck took her time and explained everything. The best part was I didn't require a dialation because I don't tolerate them very well. If I needed it I would have done it for sure however using all the new diagnostic tools they use it wasn't needed. I can't say enough about my experience. Probably the most comprehensive Dr's visit I've had in the past year!
Be prepared to wait. Exam went fine but I almost walked out ,,, the first part of the exam (95% of the total exam) was done in a timely and professional manner, but I then waited an additional 45 minutes after they put drops in to dilate my pupils. Totally unacceptable !!
First time to New jersey Regional Eye Care and I was impressed! My 17 year old daughter and I began the staff's morning with a multitude of issues. I, (parent of the year), sent my 17 year old, on her own, to her appointment - one hour late. The staff was very accommodating and let her stay (she just needed to wait). Then, I find out she cannot be seen, by the doctor, under the age of 18 without a parent. The very kind staff, again, let her wait until I could arrive (not very long after as we live close by). When I did arrive to the facility, I was greeted and assisted. I was led to the exam room where a very nice technician was performing some preliminary tests. Dr. Winkler came in shortly after and was concise, informative and easy to talk to. We were out in no time at all. Very appreciative for the staff's kindness and flexibility - we will be back!
