All aspects of the administration and customer service were really poor. Very unprofessional, Completely disorganized. Each time I called to ask important information I got a different answer. However, the doctor himself, Dr. Patel was absolutely wonderful. I wish more doctors were like him; Kind, helpful, warm, compassionate and caring.
These folk are my family. I’ve spent the last 5ish years visiting them at least once a month to save my sight. Both my parents had macular degeneration. Soooo big surprise…NOT… I have great people keeping my macular at bay. Thank you, Dr. Morrison and Dr. Patel. Not to mention all the kind & beautiful doctor assistants who have helped me over these years. You know who you are! I must give a big shout out to Miss Dora who has been my insurance and patient advocate goddess. They all deserve big raises IMHO😉
I had been seeing another Dr. Patel in El Cajon for the past 3–4 years for my dry eyes, and I was mistakenly scheduled with Dr. Surjan Patel because they have similar last names. Unfortunately, my experience was very concerning. Last year, I already felt uncertain about his experience with punctal plugs, but this recent visit was even worse. He seemed unsure about where the dry-eye plug should actually be placed. During the exam, he kept pressing on my eyelid saying “sealed, sealed,” and appeared confused about the placement. Another doctor in the same office previously placed the plug differently and much more confidently. During this visit, instruments/items were dropped, and then a plug was inserted in a way that did not feel correct. Since the appointment, my eye has become red, painful, and constantly feels like there is a foreign object stuck inside it. What is most frustrating is that if a doctor is not experienced or confident in properly placing punctal plugs, they should either refer the patient back to the appropriate specialist or seek additional training — especially after already having concerns raised a year ago. A doctor treating dry eye patients should be able to accurately examine whether a plug is correctly positioned or not before proceeding. I left feeling uncomfortable, unheard, and worried about my eye.
My biannual eye Exam went smoothly. Staff are friendly and courteous. The place is busy but managed well. Dr. Patel is an outstanding ophthalmologist and explains your condition in layman's terms. I would recommend this clinic.
