Dr. Peter Nixon has cared for my mother for over 15 years and for me over the past 5 years, and I truly cannot say enough good things about him. From the moment you meet him, you immediately sense his genuine compassion, kindness, and concern for his patients. He takes the time to listen, explain things thoroughly, and makes you feel comfortable and cared for. His knowledge and expertise as a retina specialist are exceptional, but what truly sets him apart is the way he treats people. We have always felt we were in the very best hands with Dr. Nixon, and we are incredibly grateful for the care he has given us. Thank you, Dr. Nixon!

Holy cow. This business overbooks their drs on a massive scale. I waited 2.5 hrs without being seen by a dr, for a 1 week follow-up regarding a laser procedure for a retina related repair. This was a crucial follow-up. But the dr didn’t seem to think so. After waiting 2.5 HOURS beyond my scheduled appt time, I left the business. This was after I asked a medical assistant to help me reschedule IF the dr cannot be made available. Her response was to tell me to wait longer. Not acceptable. I flagged down the dr before I left, to inform I was leaving and why . I received zero apologies, just a response that they were busy. Well they weren’t busy with my follow up. I scheduled my followup with their primary Austin competitor,to get the critical followup exam that my eye health care required. IF you go to this eye center YOU WILL WAIT long after your scheduled appt time. You’re forewarned. It’s their business model. Consider other options. They exist.
The wait was very long. I was told to arrive 30 minutes before my appointment time. I was not seen until 40 minutes after my appointment time. There was not enough seating for everyone in either of the waiting rooms. The assistants felt quite rushed and had not read the visit notes. The doctor was knowledgeable and thorough. I did have to call back about an rx that was supposed to be called in to have it called in again as it was 'lost' the first time.
Austin Retina Associates is the largest retina specialist clinic in the area and I was sent here by my ophthalmologist. The doctors are very good, and the staff are running around like crazy because the clinic is always very busy. My only criticism is that maybe they could be a little bit more efficient, But that’s how all doctors offices are because they don’t know what’s going to come up during the day. I think going here first thing in the morning would be a much more streamlined experience than later in the day when I usually go. Other than that, this clinic is great. Their equipment is very modern and all the staff are well trained. It is on the second floor of the building, which is right on the corner of 38th St. and West. So it’s sort of across the street from Seton heart. The easiest thing is to drive up into the parking garage of this building to the second floor, and then when you walk directly into the building on the second floor, it’s right in front of you. Update. I am knocking the office down one star because the staff doesn’t seem to really be on top of things. My doctor told me to contact somebody at Texas retina in Dallas, so I did, and they told me to relay a couple of things back to him. So I went back in the office and told The front office this. Somebody came back to get the details, which I told him, and he told me he was going to go back and tell my doctor and he would be back in a minute, just to let me know. More than half an hour later the office is closing, and he had never come back. I had an appointment so I had to go And when I let them know this somebody else came back to tell me that the doctor had left. Then the guy who I talked to first came walking by on his way out to go home for the day! Apparently it never occurred to him that he told me he was going to be right back out to tell me and that I was waiting for him! And it was the end of the day so it was not busy at all. So I sat there for more than half an hour for nothing and was also late to my appointment. This is not very good. The doctors are great, and the facility is great, but this definitely needs work.
I had eye surgery with Dr. Robert Wong at Austin Retina Associates several days ago. He removed a large blob of sticky vitreous jelly that had leaked out from behind my eye and stuck to my lense as a result of a YAG procedure by a different Austin eye doctor. That doctor had recommended I get the YAG procedure when I did not need it at that time, and I was left with cloudy vision in my right eye. At the suggestion of another Austin eye doctor, I was told about Dr. Wong’s excellent surgical skills at Austin Retina Associates, so I went to see him, and I am ever so glad I did. Due to his expert removal of the remaining jelly, both inside the eye and on the lense, I now have my sight back. The staff at Austin Retina are all very kind and professional as well. They prep you and get your eyes ready for the eye exam(s) you need, then record any concerns you have so the doctor can address them when he examines you. Just one day post-op, I already got the thumbs up for healing nicely and was told my results looked excellent. I am forever in Dr. Wong’s debt for helping me see clearly again after 3 years of cloudy vision. I highly recommend Austin Retina Associates should you ever need them. They’re the best.
