I am writing to express my concern regarding my recent contact lens exams and the experience I had during my visit. Unfortunately, after two exams, I was still unable to receive a pair of contacts that I could see out of properly. From the beginning, I communicated that I could not see clearly with the initial trial lenses provided. However, my concern did not seem to be fully acknowledged, and the exams proceeded using those same lenses. This resulted in continued difficulty and frustration on my end. Additionally, I was made to feel as though I was wasting the doctor’s time, which was both discouraging and uncomfortable. I believe this situation could have been handled more efficiently if my concerns had been addressed earlier in the process. I would appreciate the opportunity to be re-evaluated and properly fitted for contact lenses that meet my vision needs. If necessary, I am willing to travel to another location, including the Barenburg Essex office, in order to receive attentive and thorough care. My goal is simply to be able to see clearly with my contacts, and I hope to resolve this matter with appropriate support. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response. Best regards, Ms. Iyesha Jennings

Dr. Cohen has been great. I've been seeing her for a few years now. The staff is hit or miss sometimes. Not all, just some. My last appointment over 3 weeks ago I had to get new glasses. Usually it takes 2 weeks. I called a lil over the two week mark to check to see if they were ready. I was told they haven't come back yet and they would call me. Ok. No problem. I'm thinking that they will be back at the end of that week. No call. So I call back to check and I was told they were not there but they were going to check with the company that fills the prescription and call me back that day to let me know what they found out. No call. Sooo...I call back the next day, and the woman apologized for not calling me back and had me to hold on while she checked. Well... I was then told that the place that has my order messed it up somehow and they have to start over, (which actually sounds like they NEVER started, but hey! What do I know? ) and now I have to wait an additional week in a half before I can get my glasses. I understand how sometimes things can go wrong, but what is unacceptable is no communication on their end. If I was kept in the loop, especially since I have been calling, I would have accepted this mistake a bit better. Glasses aren't cheap and when one is paying for a service, it should be a fair and more thorough and considerate. Just try missing an appointment and they are QUICK to charge you which they have the right to do. So when a customer is actually PAYING you, be respectful enough to keep them in the loop.
I went to this place a year years back for an eye examine. Now, before I went, I called to make sure they took my insurance, which they said they did. So i scheduled an appointment and when the appointment time came, the doctor was great. Their frames were expensive so I decided I would just order them online. After I saw the doctor and he gave me my prescription, I asked him for my PD and he informed me that the lady by the glasses would give it to me. So I saw the lady, she told me about my prescription and all that good stuff and asked me if I wanted to purchase frames, I said no and asked her if she could give me my PD. She told me no, and that was confidential. Why was it confidential if it was mine? I have the slightest idea. So I checked out with the from people and I left. So I took my chances and ordered my frames online without knowing what my pd. Fast forward to last year, when I get to get an examine from somewhere else, they already had the pd on the sheet with my prescription and also, turns out the prescription I was given was INCORRECT!! And I just learned that they have to give you your pd when you ask for it. Anyways, now they keep sending me bills in the mail… after they said they took my insurance and that the exam was covered!
Once my husband accidentally got something in his eye, and we visited this office based on a recommendation. They did an excellent job—he was fine afterward. We also went back for a routine eye checkup, and it was a great experience. The staff took their time and conducted a thorough examination. Highly recommended.
Can’t say enough good things about the staff here, especially Dr. Cohen. I’m from Asheville, and a few weeks ago my family and I had to leave our house because of damage from Hurricane Helene. We moved in temporarily with my parents in Owings Mills, where I grew up. I ran out of contacts just before we left town, so called around the Baltimore area to try to get a lens fitting ASAP. The first place I called said they couldn’t see me until mid-November. So I decided I’d find a place with good reviews and go there in person to explain my situation. (A risky bet, but I was desperate.) The afternoon I showed up at Barenburg, one of the doctors, Shoshana Cohen, overhead my sob story as I was telling it to the front desk. She said she had a cancellation that day and could see me in an hour. I hung around the lobby then returned to the busy waiting room. She appeared at the exact time she said, conducted the exam, and left me with a brand new contact lens prescription. I had my new contacts in a week. Eye appointments, especially at reputable places, are not easy to get. I am so grateful to Dr. Cohen and the Barenburg staff for helping me out in a tight spot. I would absolutely recommend them.
