This appointment was great. Everyone was so nice. I loved it. It was my first time having an optometrist consultation here in Chicago, and I’m really glad I booked with Dr. Randy. He’s very chill, makes you feel relaxed, and I felt well taken care of. The front desk team was wonderful. Very kind and attentive. This is an excellent place. I loved my appointment. I would absolutely recommend it.

Eye Mechanix is an independent business that delivers exceptional customer service. From the moment you walk in, the experience feels welcoming and professional. A special shout-out to Ezra, who was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. Highly recommend!
This used to be a good place to get vision exam and eye glasses where my entire family of four went for those. After what looks like an overhaul of entire front desk staff, it’s a mess. We always had gone to Dr R as a family but this time I scheduled a medical visit with Dr G. to check out my one eye on 5/5 because of redness and itchiness (couldn’t get one through NM eye clinic) and was prescribed an eye drop. Dr said that vision exam wants to be done after taking the med for about a week so he can do dilation etc. So on that day, I scheduled a Sat vision exam for 5/16. When they said it’s 90% co-pay I told myself mea culpa for not calling BCBS to check first and paid. When I took it to CVS, they showed me the med and said that they couldn’t fill it because the doc did not write his state license number (!). So I couldn’t pick up med to treat my eye and ended up calling the office to call CVS. When I showed up for vision exam, the front desk was busy and I was told to just wait so check out the frames for 20 minutes. Then Dr G saw me and I thought to myself don’t they usually get the staff to check a couple things first? Also no paperwork was given but my vision insurance has been the same for several years while coming here. The doctor asked about the eye drops and I said it was fine and I am here for vision test since we could not do it the last time. He said that there’s no paperwork from the front desk for my prior tests so I told him my last eye test was here so they’d have the records. So I was asked to come out and was told that I need to set up another appointment for vision test and today’s appointment was set up as a medical appointment. I told the front desk that I never agreed to set up a follow up medical appointment and I asked to set up for a vision test because the doctor said that he could not do it on the same day and recommended to wait a week. The young lady insisted that I set up this as medical so this was very interesting. It’s one thing to pay 90% copay when you did not know but why would you set up a follow up medical knowing this? At this point, I realized that I am dealing with a completely incompetent team and wasting my time. Money aside, I realized that I should not pay a dollar toward this sham crew who are basically conning unsuspecting patients by making stuff up, and on philosophical grounds, I just cannot go along with the circus. I was asked to wait more and the young guy came back and said the doctor can do my vision test now if I want. I looked at him and then I looked at her who looked away. I thought better for myself. It’s hard to shop for medical services but lessons learned - I do not want to give my business to people who do not know what they are doing and blaming on the patient. In my younger years, I might have gone along for convenience or something but I know that just perpetuates the same behaviors. I’ve been coming here since their old location at west Lincoln Park and they do have high end frames and the current location is even more convenient for our family but that ended today with me learning a lesson. Buyer beware as they say. Check and double check when shopping for medical services. At the first sign of something not quite right (who forgets to write your state license # thereby giving your patient a prescription that you can never fill) you need to revisit your decision…
The service from front desk was efficient and friendly. The doctor was warm and reassuring. I visited for an emergency issue which arose the day before and he helped me with referrals to retinal specialists and follow-up information. If I lived nearby I would definitely return.
Amazing , efficient and very professional service . Dr Randy Ricketts is the best ophthalmologist ever. Very kind , patient, professional and makes you feel so special. Love going there every year for my eye exam and glasses .
