Very impressed with Dr Langkawel. I’ve had an eye issue for months that other doctors missed. She spent a lot of time looking and came up with a plan.

Too much Doctor turnover in 3 years to continue going here (3 new doctors in 3 years). I was called last week and informed that the last ophthalmologist in this group was becoming a specialty surgeon and my only option was one optometrist. Will be finding another doctor in town--it's obvious UAB can't handle two separate branches. They've also had to close their glasses store, due to short-staffing (the only guy that worked it had health issues and I guess they couldn't find anyone else to take over?). I found that out the hard way, after going in to a dark building with only one worker in the whole place back in March.
Since UAB Callahan purchased this practice from Dr Sputh this practice has absolutely tanked ! So many issues it’s just unbelievable! You can’t get anyone on the phone at the local office , you can’t pay your bill online , the staff is completely unaware or untrained or doesn’t care I’m really not sure but they are also rude ! I began at this practice when Dr Yeargen was the Dr and have stuck around for decades but this buyout was too much! I finally decided to see Dr. Landreth @ Tuscaloosa Eyecare so I went to UAB Callahan filled out the release paperwork and they couldn’t / didn’t even forward that over for my appt ! These people are completely unprofessional and incompetent!
I've been going to Dr. Sputh for years and really like him but the recent affiliation with UAB seems to have caused chaos in the scheduling process and overcrowding in his practice. My recent appointment was changed without any notice to me and my wife was told after sitting in the waiting room for an hour that she didn't have an appointment, despite the fact that she had written documentation of her appointment time. They also charged her the insurance copay despite the fact that she was not seen. The receptionist was rude and dismissive. We will be looking for a new opthamologist.
Very upset that I am unable to come to this provider since the shift to UAB medicine. Was told after the switch I would be contacted, and never heard from them so went to a big box provider for my 2023 appointment. I tried to make an appointment for this year and cannot receive one until August! I really like Dr. Lankawel, but the UAB service has been less than ideal.
