I could not have had a more frustrating experience. I went for my first LASIK consultation 5/19. Went through all the testing, everything looked great, total time took roughly an hour. I told them I was ready and eager for surgery, hoping to have it done as soon as possible. I was told I could not schedule until after the second round of testing when they dilate my eyes. 2 weeks later, 6/2, I went for the second round of testing, this visit was much more frustrating. I was in the office a total of 2 hours, 20 minutes of that I was actually being examined. The other hour and 40 minutes I was shuffled from waiting room to waiting room. At both visits we discussed medications I am on and there was concern that I am being treated for RA. After the second consult, the doc cleared me and said everything was good. He asked if I had scheduled, which I responded I was told I couldn’t schedule until I was cleared the second time. I was met with “oh okay. Well we can schedule you, but that associate is out for the week. She will call you”. I felt weary, it seemed like communication was lacking, but no biggie. I waited until the end of the following week and finally hear back from that associate and was now told the surgical center was being changed and they had no place to conduct the LASIK. So “I’ll call you when we have that but feel free to call me in the meantime”. I waited nearly another month, called multiple times for any update which I heard back maybe twice. Finally I got the call the week of 7/22 that were good to schedule. I was told I had to come in to the office to sign paperwork. Now, more frustrated, I explained I had already taken off of work to make it into the office 2 separate times and I would not do so a 3rd just to sign paperwork. I asked if they were open before or after my work hours, I would do so. Otherwise, they can email it to me. After going back and forth for a few minutes with the scheduling associate, she said she would email it over and I need to sign and bring it to the surgery. 7/31 they called to collect card info for payment and confirmed my surgery for 8am on 8/7. I went and got the prescribed drops from the pharmacy, took off work, made transportation arrangements. All is good. Until 8/6 at 8pm I get a phone call from Dr. DeStefano that he “missed” a medication I take for migraines. I told him that we discussed this in his office at both appointments, I take the medication as needed, no more than 1-3 times a month. He said he doesn’t feel comfortable doing the procedure and I should seek a second opinion. I shared my frustration, how did we discuss all meds in person AND it’s been 2.5 months since I first went and I am just now being called 12 hours before surgery. All he could do is say he missed it and dropped the ball. Yeah, I’d say so. My fair warning to anyone seeking LASIK - I would go anywhere else. This is a level of unprofessionalism I hope no one else endures.
Dr Marek was amazing. She is so thorough and was able to give me imaging as evidence. She explain everything extremely well. She is highly knowledgeable and competent. The staff was super kind and helpful. Cons to practice, not the doctor: I somehow hit my head, more likely stabbed it, into the corner of the shelf in the women's bathroom near the toilet. That needs moved.
Everyone in the office is helpful and nice. I was originally seen for an eye emergency and they got me in same day. Dr. Marek is extremely knowledgeable and takes her time to explain everything to you. She makes sure you know all your options. I am so happy that I found this practice. I feel like my eye health is in good hands.
Dr. Dang was thorough and connected well with my son. She gave good advice for his eyes and made the best recommendations for him. We liked her very much.
