Tried to go here for glasses and contacts instead of waiting at an appt through UM and ended up having to make a UM appointment after my visit anyways. Good: Getting an appointment was easy. Also, front desk staff and medical assistants were great and very friendly. Bad: Script for contacts was not good. They offer for you to come back and revise the script, but at that point going elsewhere was easier for me. I had to ask multiple times to receive a printed script, in case I wanted to order my contacts from elsewhere. They also do not sell 2 week contacts and so were strongly against them without the ability to detail why. I discussed with my UM optometrist again after this visit and they reinforced that 2 week contacts are just fine. Finally, eye exam was not the best. Since my eyes weren't dilated they did not try to examine my retina even though I have been to multiple optometrists who are able to see my entire retina without my eyes dilated since my eyes are light. Neutral: Commercialized -- they'll offer you an eye picture that you don't medically need. All in all, they may be good for normal eye exams and glasses, and they definitely have a great stock of frames and sunglasses, but I would not recommend for contacts.

Kristin Zerwa was so down to earth and spoke to me in ways I could understand, but most of all she listened to what I had to say. She is a phenomenal doctor and deserves a raise. She’s a keeper. I will see her again. Allison the optometrist technician is wonderful and so professional and so polite. I really enjoyed speaking with her while I was there. Another keeper for sure and most definitely deserves a raise.
This was my third year going to Dr. Zierwa. As always she is the height of professionalism. She was on time. She is knowledgeable. She explained my exam and her findings thoroughly. Her assistant was friendly and professional. I would recommend to anyone.
My daughter received services in June 2025, including a hard contact lens costing about $1,500. The office failed to submit the claim to our insurance, and I only discovered this in November. When I contacted their central billing department, I was assured the claim would be filed promptly. By April 2026, the claim still had not been submitted. I called again a week ago, and as of today, I’m still trying to resolve the issue. I was told the billing department had requested an internal team to process the claim, but nothing has been done. This level of delay and lack of follow-through is extremely frustrating—especially given the cost involved. Patients should not have to repeatedly chase the billing department for something this basic.
I have enjoyed the doctors at Clarkson, but a recent experience has made it so I am leaving Clarkson after years of loyalty. On 9/8/25 I phoned to the office to order contacts, which were handled and ordered. I received the receipt via email and it did not reflect any insurance proceeds. I sent an email back same day to the front office coordinator inquiring about insurance proceeds and received no response. I then proceeded to go into the office later that month and was told that I should've told them to use insurance so it was my fault and there wasn't anything they could do and I should contact my insurance or use my benefits for glasses. In December, I went to the office to look at glasses and they looked up my insurance and all they could see was that my insurance proceeds were already used, but couldn't tell me why or for what. I checked with my insurance and they paid out on the contact lens claim in September already, unknown to me that insurance was even applied/submitted. I then called corporate billing on 12/23 and they said I was owed a refund, which they submitted, and that the local office would call to facilitate the refund in the next two weeks. On 12/29, I called the local office as I hadn't heard anything and they knew nothing, but I did learn that they submitted the insurance claim and heard nothing from corporate in September. I called corporate billing AGAIN and they stated that the refund wasn't put through but couldn't elaborate and that they would do so. It is now 1/13 and I've heard nothing about my refund. I have been owed since September and Clarkson has not been able to remedy it, despite being given MY insurance proceeds. I'm tired of calling repeatedly and never given a confirmation or clear path to refund. The local office might be fine, but the fact that you have to deal with call centers and corporate billing makes it impossible to navigate.
