I have been a patient at this office for 15 years and, until this recent experience, I had never once had an issue. My doctor has always been wonderful, and I want to make it clear that my concerns are not with the doctor but with the administrative side of the office. During my most recent visit, my doctor recommended that I try daily contacts. After looking into the pricing, I decided they were not financially reasonable for me at this time. I asked the office for a quote on the biweekly contacts I have always worn, and I was quoted $200+ for ONLY a 6-month supply. After comparing prices elsewhere, I found the same contacts for less than that price while receiving a FULL year’s supply, so I chose to purchase them from another contact provider. I have two different prescriptions for my contacts, and I ran out of one eye’s prescription while waiting for my order to arrive. I called the office to see if there was any way I could purchase a single contact lens to get me through until my order came in. Unfortunately, I was told they could not help me because the contacts they had available were reserved only for patients who were purchasing contacts directly through their office. I was very disappointed by this response, especially after being a loyal patient for 15 years and having just paid for a comprehensive eye exam only a few weeks prior. I understand that businesses have policies, but I feel there should be some consideration given to long-standing patients who are simply trying to avoid being without their prescription. Again, my experience with the doctor has always been excellent. My disappointment is with the lack of flexibility and customer service from the administrative side of the office.

I would not recommend Clarkson Eyecare for children’s appointments due to their repeated lack of respect for patients’ time. I brought both of my sons for separate appointments on different days, and both experiences involved excessive waiting. During the first appointment, we waited 30 minutes in the waiting room before being called back. I was literally about to leave and forfeit the appointment when we were finally taken to an exam room. After that, we waited another 30 minutes before seeing the doctor. For the second appointment, we waited about 15 minutes to be called back, started the appointment process, and were then left waiting for another 45 minutes before the doctor arrived. At this point, you should plan to block off nearly two hours for what should be a simple eye appointment. What makes it even more frustrating is that the office will cancel your appointment if you’re 15 minutes late, yet they seem perfectly comfortable keeping patients waiting far longer than that. This is especially disappointing for a practice that specializes in children. Kids don’t have the attention span to sit and wait for extended periods, and parents have schedules to manage as well. Unfortunately, after two separate experiences with the same issue, I will not be returning.

Can't give a 0 so 1 it is! Had an appointment with Dr Magee (on the non-Kids side of the business). The check-in was smooth. I was on time but ended up waiting for 20 mins for a room to be ready and then another 20 mins in the room. My patience finally gave up and had to walk out. Was told by the front desk there was an emergency. Generally emergencies do not have a set resolution time, they should be handled proactively by either proposing a new time to the waiting patient or keeping the patient updated on how long will it take- There is an emergency, it will take 30 mins (or whatever)-, simple enough! Leaving the patient waiting is unacceptable from a service point of view...

I’ve been coming to this eye doctor for over three years, and while the doctor is excellent, the administrative side needs serious improvement. I have three daughters. Two of them have good vision, but I still bring them in for annual checkups as a precaution. My third daughter, however, is the one who truly needs consistent monitoring, as the doctor has said her vision is progressively getting worse. Appointments are usually scheduled at the end of each visit, yet I receive annual reminders for the two who don’t urgently need them—but when I called about the one who does, I was told she wasn’t even on the schedule. After finally getting her in for an exam, I was then told the visit wasn’t covered by my insurance and that they couldn’t release her prescription until I paid. This didn’t make sense, as I’ve had the same insurance the entire time I’ve been a patient there. Instead of paying out of pocket, I contacted my HR department, who confirmed that my vision coverage was active and correctly set up. I then called the office’s call center, and they informed me that a claim hadn’t even been filed. The representative was able to process the claim immediately—without asking for my insurance details—which shows they already had everything on file. In the end, the issue was resolved, but the experience was incredibly frustrating and unnecessary. The lack of organization and accountability on the administrative side is unacceptable. To make matters worse, I was told I now have to return in person just to pick up the prescription and a school note because they no longer email it. The doctor is great, which is the only reason I’ve stayed this long, but the repeated administrative issues, lack of communication, and disregard for patients’ time make it very difficult to recommend this office.

Upon arriving for my son’s appointment, we waited over an hour before the doctor finally came into the room, which is honestly ridiculous. After finally being seen, the doctor completely changed my son’s prescription and said his eyesight had gotten worse within just one year. It honestly felt more like they were trying to push a new prescription instead of actually helping. Then things got even worse at the front desk. I went to pay the contact lens fitting fee, which has always been $55 every time I’ve gone there, and suddenly I was told it is now $95. Nobody mentioned this over the phone when the appointment was confirmed. When I asked why customers aren’t told ahead of time about fee changes, the office employee, who was a Hispanic lady I spoke to, told me they “don’t have to disclose fee changes,” which came off very rude and unprofessional. I explained that not telling customers about price increases beforehand feels dishonest, especially after wasting over two hours of my time there. Instead of trying to fix the situation or honor the price I’ve always paid as a returning customer, she refused and told me I would not get my prescription. The whole experience felt misleading and very unfriendly toward customers. I’ve already escalated this to a supervisor and I’m still waiting for a response. I also need someone to verify whether they have charged my insurance. Someone from corporate seriously needs to reach out to me about how this office is being run and how customers are being treated.
