Dr. Raul Alderete, Optometrist

I didn't know I could love an optometrist! Dr. Alderete is the most knowledgeable doctor, and he truly gets to know you and makes you feel like you are his only patient. He also made things so simple to understand and I felt included in my plan of care. Great facility, even greater doctor. 10/10.

​I am writing this review to warn other patients about the unprofessional conduct and hygiene failures I experienced with this provider over two visits. ​Professional Misconduct & Harassment: The demeanor of this provider was consistently inappropriate. During the first visit, he moved his chair so close that I was cornered in the exam chair and had to explicitly ask for space. During the follow-up, he made sexist remarks about women’s ability to handle lenses versus men. Most disturbingly, he used highly inappropriate, infantilizing language toward me after I inserted my lens. This type of demeaning and unprofessional commentary is completely unacceptable in a medical setting. ​Hygiene & Safety Failures: During my first appointment, he touched my face and eyes without washing his hands or wearing gloves. When I requested that he wash his hands during the second visit, he did so with a flippant, mocking tone, and then immediately left the room before applying my lens, compromising the sterile environment. He also disregarded my input when I offered to hold my own eye open to maintain my personal space and hygiene. ​Demeanor & Communication: The provider was consistently dismissive and rude. He used baiting language regarding his mood, mocked my explanation of medical terms with confusing sarcasm, and repeatedly expressed doubt about my ability to handle contacts despite my clear history of doing so. He also offered irrelevant and alarming medical "concerns" that contradicted standard surgical knowledge. ​I have already filed formal reports with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), the Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO), and the Office for Civil Rights (OCR). I am sharing this publicly because patients deserve a provider who maintains basic hygiene, respects physical boundaries, and adheres to professional ethics. Based on my experience and other reports I have seen regarding inappropriate comments about staff, I strongly urge others to seek care elsewhere.

I was traveling to Denver and needed glasses asap. Dr. Alderete was able to get me scheduled. He is very knowledgeable and took great care in educating me about my specific vision needs! Best optometrist I’ve ever seen!

Dr. Alderete is the Barry Bonds of optometry (well, without the steroids scandal of course). I’ve been wearing contacts for over two decades and he taught me things I didn’t know and had never heard from any other optometrist about how to make sure I’m taking care of my eye health longevity. I was having an odd vision problem that other doctors couldn’t figure out and he took the time to get into my background and details and eventually figured it out! He even took time to figure out why I was having certain issues on the tennis court and gave me a specialized solution because he realized how important it was to me. Can’t recommend him enough!!!

Dr. Alderete is by far the best Optometrist I've ever encountered! You can tell he has a deep passion for what he does. He is kind, patient, friendly, professional and truly a master of his craft. He provides honest and clear insights while explaining the reasoning behind his recommendations. His staff has also always been excellent to work with. The office is clean and well maintained. Truly exceptional!
