I am writing to provide feedback regarding my recent experience at the Middlebelt/Livonia location, specifically concerning the services provided by Dr. Christina Khalaf and the attached Optical Center. **Regarding Dr. Christina Khalaf and Staff (Five Stars):** Dr. Khalaf and her staff provide exceptional service.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ She is highly professional and genuinely cares about her patients. The complete eye exam, including a basic glaucoma check (and if she sees anything, she will refer you out for a second opinion) cost approximately $90.00 (as of this date), which is significantly lower than the $178.00 or more charged by many other providers for the same service, if you are paying with cash and no insurance. I greatly appreciate her professionalism and kindness, especially when I returned to see her regarding issues with my new prescription today. ---------- ------------ ---------- **Regarding the Optical Center (Zero Stars):** However, my experience with the Optical Center at the same location was extremely disappointing. As a member since 2012, I have purchased seven or eight pairs of glasses from this center previously, with only one return, (not including the recent purchase because I bought another pair for the same, exact price) My most recent interaction with the manager, LaTonya, was unprofessional and frustrating. I returned a recent purchase because the glasses were uncomfortable and the lenses felt difficult to see through, suspecting the top and bottom of the prescription might be incorrect. The Costco warranty explicitly states, "Costco has a 100% member satisfaction guarantee. If the prescription eyeglasses are unsatisfactory for ANY reason, you may return them to the Optical Department in your local Costco Warehouse for a repair, replacement, or refund," but this was NOT my experience. LaTonya was extremely rude, making me feel belittled and implying that I was at fault. She referenced a note on my account stating that she needed to see me before I made a purchase (twice) and stated, "Remember that this sale is final and we will not allow you to exchange the glasses when it was the prescription...." I reiterated that my issue was with the fit of the glasses and that I wished to exchange them for a different frame, similar to a pair my sister purchased that same day, and that I would revisit the doctor to verify the prescription. When I had to see Dr. Khalaf again because it was very blurry to see out of the lense from top to bottom, Dr. Khalaf suggested we get the new classes adjusted and we encountered LaTonya in the Optical area. LaTonya immediately escalated the situation by stating she knew who I was and referencing "her problem." After I left disappointed, Dr. Khalaf called me, recognizing how upset I was. I believe LaTonya's manner of speaking to me from the start of the purchase was unacceptable. I want to specifically commend LaTonya’s associate, "Jess," who was extremely kind and helpful throughout this process. I strongly suggest that management review LaTonya’s handling of customer issues, as her approach lacks the respect and customer service necessary for a management position.

I ordered and bought two pairs of prescribed glasses in December 2025. One of the frames is the John Varvatos brand, for which I did not receive its original frame's case, but they gave me a generic Kirkland brand case instead of its original John Varvatos brand one. The day I picked the glasses up, I requested the original frame, the same brand, because I paid for it. It was supposed that they made a request at that time. After that, I have stopped by there three times during this year, 2026, since I live in Ohio, asking for the frame I paid for, and until now, no one has been responsible for giving me the frame or at least offering something else beyond just the generic one instead. This situation seems like a scam/fraud since there is not accountability on the optical department in this store about this irregular case/situation.

If I could give the optical department 0 stars I would. Jess is absolutely the worst worker in the optical department. If Jess is there leave to go to a different costco. She needed my dad to come up to the store, he couldn't cause he has a disability- and she said she wouldnt be able to give me the membership benefit because he physically isnt there of his disability. For a company that says they dont hold a disability against someone, Jess definitely does.

I am currently drafting a review regarding my recent experience. My family and I were attempting to purchase frames and, after trying on several, we identified specific frames displayed in a locked glass case. We patiently waited for an extended period for staff assistance, understanding that only two employees were on duty. After approximately 30 minutes, an employee assisted us; however, their approach was notably rigid. We were required to try on frames individually, and the employee insisted on retrieving each frame for us, which we found to be an inconvenient and somewhat distrustful process. Furthermore, the employee made unsolicited comments about the cost of certain frames, suggesting we consider less expensive options, which we perceived as an insinuation regarding our financial capacity. My family has been purchasing frames from Costco for eight years, and this is the first instance of such an experience. The employee was rather rude. Its sad but we switched to buying it somewhere else.

Dr. Khalaf is the most thorough and understanding optometrist I've ever had. I had a problem with my prescription, and she fixed it right away, even doing not one, but two complete re-examinations. She even found a potential serious eye issue and provided a bonus high resolution eye scan on the house just to make sure it wasn't a critical problem. Definitely a top tier doctor, I can't recommend her highly enough.
