I do not feel that I could recommend any improvement in the services from one member of the staff. Each and every one was efficient, friendly caring and respectful of my time and needs. Both Doctor Hernandez and Newbold hear me and filled my needs. Even the financial checkout was warm, caring and efficient. They were also considerate of the long drive to get there from Tularosa and set my appointments with consideration. I am only waiting on my glasses after having lens replacement surgery. But I have no doubt they will be perfect, more than anything I am grateful to see plants and mountains clearly again. Thank each one of you.

I have been to several Optometrust Offices this hands down the best experience I have encountered! From the ladies at the front end and the assistants to Dr. Newborn thank yal'll for a very authentic exceptional experience! Low stress low anxiety and very efficient. Thank You!
I had a very disappointing experience at Eyes of the Southwest with Dr. Newbold. The technicians and front desk staff were kind, patient, and professional, but unfortunately the actual exam with the doctor was the complete opposite. I brought my 89-year-old grandmother in because she clearly needs an updated glasses prescription. Her current glasses are very old, and her vision has obviously changed. The technician who first examined her was patient, detailed, and took time explaining what she wanted my grandmother to read during the eye test. She even mentioned that her vision appeared to have changed according to prior records they had. However, once Dr. Newbold came in, the entire experience felt rushed and careless. He seemed impatient with my grandmother and did not communicate instructions clearly at all. During the refraction test, instead of guiding her properly (“read this line” or “focus on the letters”), he rapidly asked things like “1 or 2? 3 or 4? 5 or 6?” without explaining what she should actually be comparing. My grandmother repeatedly answered that both options looked blurry or the same, which is understandable for an elderly patient who needs clear guidance and extra patience. Rather than slowing down and helping her through the process, he appeared visibly frustrated and rushed through the exam in just a few minutes. As someone sitting there observing the entire interaction, it honestly felt like he was trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible instead of thoroughly helping a patient. Elderly patients deserve patience, compassion, and proper care, especially during something as important as a vision exam. My grandmother initially went to Eyes of the southwest for Dr. Hernandez, but has then been switched over to Dr Newbold because Hernandez now only performs surgeries. The experience at “Eyes of the Southwest” feels more focused on pushing volume than providing quality patient care. Today we left without confidence that the prescription was even done thoroughly or accurately. We will absolutely be seeking a different optometrist moving forward. Again, the front desk staff and technicians were very kind and professional, and I appreciate them listening to my concerns afterward. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Dr. Newbold based on this experience.
In yet another example of the very poor medical care now found in Las Cruces, my wife was denied medical care today from Dr. Edward V. Hernandez of Eyes of The Southwest. My wife is suffering from a serious eye infection called Demodex blepharitis, an infection of parasite mites on the eyelids. She was seen recently by another practice on a follow up appointment, but the next day her condition worsened with a secondary infection of some sort and she requested an appointment to get it checked right away. That practice said they had no appointments for the next three months and to go to the emergency room instead. We needed to see a real eye doctor who has a Slit Lamp, so her primary care told us to go to Dr Hernandez. We will let our primary care provider know to not refer to this practice for anyone who really needs care!
My mother drove down from Alamogordo and was quite disappointed. No respect for patient time. Appointment times are mere suggestions. Made an appointment with an ophthalmologist but got bait and switched to an optometrist. More about making money than caring for patients.
