I had an outstanding experience at Family Optical in Spearfish. Dr. Welke provided incredibly thorough, comprehensive eye care and took the time to make sure every aspect of my vision was addressed. It's easy to overlook just how much quality eye care matters until you experience it at this level. The staff made selecting two pairs of glasses completely seamless. They helped me choose frames, recommended some seriously impressive lens options, and then meticulously adjusted everything until the fit was exactly right. Their attention to detail was outstanding, and it made a noticeable difference in both comfort and vision. My career is physically demanding and also requires long hours in front of screens and technology, so having crisp, sharp vision isn't a luxury - it's essential. The difference that high-quality lenses, proper fitting, and expert care make is remarkable. While my childhood dream of becoming a Top Gun pilot may not be in the cards, thanks to Dr. Welke and the team at Family Optical, I can still go through life seeing like an eagle... with a little help from modern vision correction. I've personally been going here for years, they were recommended by wife as her family had used them for a long time. I've always felt like Pat was very pushy and almost predatory when it came time to pick frames. Always pushing for stuff that wasn't needed and trying to get you to spend an absurd amount of money. Recently it was time for us all to get exams done. We took our 2 older children to get exams, they didn't mention anything about not accepting the insurance we have, they assumed we still had our old insurance and did the exams. Fast forward a few weeks and we get a bill in the mail for over $600, the childrens insurance wasn't accepted and we were charged over $300 a piece for their standard exams, no extras, no glasses needed, a simple exam. I don't care what anyone thinks, that's predatory and in no case is a standard eye exam on decades old equipment worth that. We will gladly take our business elsewhere after that. My wife had been using them for years and years along with her parents. Greed is the new standard Edit: now they are calling us trying to justify it and they asked if we asked for a cash discount, which we did and were told no initially but now they're changing their tune, give us $400 back and maybe we can talk. Second edit, no you didn't discuss the coverage BEFORE the exam. I was there. Sorry that you're trying to lie and save face. You can spin it however you want. Your actions were predatory and nothing you did was worth $305 a piece. You also said no to a cash discount, those are the facts.

I had a great experience at Dr. Renae’s office. She is thorough and knowledgeable.I have lots of family history of eye disease and she took her time answering all my questions without making me feel rushed. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and their eye health. Also, all of the clinic staff were welcoming, professional and efficient. If you are looking for an eye dr that is skilled and compassionate, I highly recommend Dr. Renae!

Just had my eye exam done with Dr. Welke. She was thorough and very nice! The staff and front desk were so nice and helpful!

I recently bought two pair of glasses at Family Optical and am extremely pleased. From the moment I walked in the staff was friendly and helpful. When having my glasses fitted, Dr. H was very easy to talk to and explained everything he was doing. My glasses fit great!
