My family and I were devastated to hear about Sharon's passing. All 5 of us have been with Gem Optical for over 15 years. Going there every year was always a pleasure, it is a family tradition at this point. Even now as working adults, we all take the day off to get our exams done and pick out frames together. The doctor is very knowledgeable and the experience overall was made fun by Sharon. We never had any issues with our glasses, they were always made to the highest quality. We had fun picking out stylish cases. It was the best. I saw somewhere that the business might be permanently closed... I'm really going to miss this place. Thank you for all the years of service.

I read some of the reviews on here and all you need to do is look at the peoples reviews on other things. I am glad that I came here. Sharon was so nice and so was the lady eye Examiner. Yes it’s a older building , but the reason why I came here for myself is because I am a RTC driver and I asked the people that I pick up how this place was. It was always positive.. that Review from that Brooklyn T lady almost had me not coming. But I looked at her other reviews and all was just horrible and negative. It’s like she had nothing better to do then to complain… For me I was very happy with the service and yes I am also very picky. The lady that tested my eyes knew a lot. I’ve been to tons of doctors with my eyes. Specialist so I know what to expect cause I had a rare cancer in my one eye. This eye doctor is Exceptional.

I’ve had very pleasant experiences here. The first time I came in with Medicaid I only paid for the anti reflection. I came in on July 23rd after my glasses snapped without insurance, and paid a decent amount for the Exam and Glasses. I received my glasses in the time expected 5 days and the service I received was great! Everyone is very friendly and they have a good selection to pick from.

Been going here for about 5-6 years now. The lady that owns the place has focused on medicaid needs and made nearly the entire selection available to medicaid recipients (all full frames glasses are yours for the choosing with no extra cost. Anything else may cost you, but not full price). Friendly and welcoming. I highly suggest this place.

They were very nice up front and I had an examination to verify my prescription. I ordered a progressive bifocal just like the ones I currently have, except the frames are different. Every thing was fine till I came back a week later and found that the bottom prescription, on the new glasses, for reading was not quite in focus. I was told that I should take them home and try them out for a week. I did not want to take them home and try to get used to fuzzy reading and so I refused the glasses and told them to fix it. The lady then informed me it would be another hundred bucks to bring the reading part into focus. That is ridiculous. She stated that they will try to fix them and call me back when ready. If they fix them, I will edit this post to reflect the new status. Status update - Gem improved the close up vision a little but is still way short of the quality of Lenscrafters. Plus they charged me the extra hundred dollars to allow me to actually read the print on the receipt. Also the glasses didn't come with the self tinting for sunlight. I will not be going back to them again. Maybe you'll have better luck.
