I've been a patient at Howerton for 10 years. The past 5 years have proven to me that there is a lack of consideration for the patient. I was scheduled for an annual appointment at 8:30AM. I arrived at 8:03AM and was told I was early; that my appointment wasn't until 8:30. I acknowledged that and said I don't like to be late. I was directed to a seathing area. At 8:15 I went to the front desk and asked how far behind are they running? After they looked they told me there was one person in front of me, so it woud be another 10 to 20 minutes (estimated). I told her that is unbelievable because they should not be that far behind at this time of the day. She told me they are short staffed. I told her the past two years have been the same and each time I was told they are running behind because they are short staffed. Then she said "we are always short staffed". At that point, I asked her to cancel my appointment. She said she would and I left. This clinic apparently places no value on the patient's time. That is just rude! It is also inconsiderate for them not to mention that they are running behind, or to come tell me they are running behind; I should not have had to go ask.

I have been taking my elderly mom to the Howerton clinic for 6 years. This year she turned 96y. Dr Torres has been so courteous to both of us and so gentle with her. The clinic staff is knowledgeable and also very understanding of Mom's +2 one wheelchair and a rollator walker and my dear son literally drives us around from doctor to doctor. I highly recommend the Howerton Clinic for your eye needs. Thanks again for your service and support. Manuela Herrera Beatrice Herrera David Haydon
Seamless from beginning to end at both the surgery center and medical office in Kyle. The staff was very friendly in both places. Wait times were so low. In and out. Well oiled machine. My doctor, Scott Kelly, is excellent. Takes his time to explain everything clearly. He’s personable which goes a long way these days. Great experience.
Anaida at front desk was professional and helpful. I had to wait 20 minutes past my appointment time to be seen. The technician who did measurements and eye check was nice and personable. Had some issues getting the prescription right. She ended up taking my glasses to see the prescription on it from last year. Dr. Kelly was professional and gave me assessment on how my eyes were doing. Speeding up wait time to get in and double checking prescription before doing drops would be helpful. I’ll be back next year and hope to see improvement in these two things. I appreciate being able to do online registration of medical and insurance in advance of my appointment. Saved me coming in way early to fill out hand printing the information.
Do not recommend this eye office. It is a nice building but the wait time to see Dr. Howerton was ridiculous. Even if one has an appointment. My appt was scheduled at 4pm. Check in time at 3:45 pm. I waited with others that also announced they been waiting for awhile. I wait for 45 min until I inquired of when I would be seen. Staff informed me 1.5 to 2 hours. I inquired of the reason, they mentioned Dr. Howerton like to spend time with her patients. That is great but next time dont schedule resident at a certain time. Over promise and under deliver. I had to take time off work and drive in from Austin. I immediately request for my copay to be refunded and decline their services.
