WISHING THERE WAS A 0 ⭐️ OPTION !!! I had an extremely disappointing experience at Cohen’s Fashion Optical in Journal Square today, and honestly, this was enough for me to never return. As soon as I walked in, one of the employees greeted me and asked for my name, date of birth, address, phone number, and confirmed my insurance information. She then explained the contact lens pricing and insurance deductible policy, including that prices could range from $90–$150 depending on whether I had astigmatism. After all of that, she told me to have a seat and wait to be called. I waited over 1 hour and 20 minutes. When I first arrived, there were about three other patients waiting. Every single one of them was eventually called, examined, and gone — while I remained sitting there the entire time with zero updates. Another employee even approached me during the wait asking if I wanted to look at frames, which I did, so it was very obvious I had been there waiting for service. Eventually, I got up and asked how much longer it would take. One employee replied, “You’re next.” I responded that I already knew I was next because I was literally the only person left waiting — I simply wanted to know HOW LONG it would actually be. Another employee then went to the back room to check and came back asking me, “Did you check in?” Excuse me? I checked in WITH YOU. You personally verified all of my information when I arrived. At that point I became extremely upset, because while anyone can make a simple mistake, this felt bigger than that. This is actually not the first issue I’ve had here, and a repeated pattern stops feeling like an accident. The worst part was not even the mistake itself — it was the lack of accountability afterward. Not one sincere apology. No urgency. No acknowledgment that I had wasted almost an hour and a half of my time sitting there unnoticed. Instead, the immediate response was simply: “Can we reschedule?” Absolutely not. I walked out, and I genuinely would rather go somewhere else than ever return to this location again. Patients deserve basic professionalism, communication, organization, and respect for their time — none of which I experienced today. Despite everything I went through the waiting area smell like rotten dead rat !!

I’m only giving it 3 stars because I’m unsure as of right now. I went there Saturday and everything was nice everyone was nice and they had the glasses I wanted even offer Affirm to pay for the glasses in payments which is nice. They said they would be ready in 5-7 business day. So HOPEFULLY, I get them on time because for that price I’m trying to get use out of them. The last glasses place I went to did my exam I could see everything clearly in the exam than got the glasses and couldn’t see anything so hopefully this script for the lens matches and everything is Kosher. Will change my review to more or less stars soon.
1 star. Extremely frustrating experience with Cohens Fashion Optical. Customer service is very difficult to deal with—no one gives a straight answer, and getting clear information feels impossible. Last year I did both my eyeglasses and contact lens exam and ordered the “free” 3-month supply of contacts through my insurance. After waiting two months with no update, I called only to find out they never even placed the order. Completely unacceptable. Now, a year later, I called just to ask a simple question about what brand/type of contacts is on my prescription. The representative seemed completely confused, first telling me I needed to come in for another exam—even though my prescription from last year hasn’t expired. After I pointed that out, she then said I do have a prescription, but I still need to physically come into the store and place an order just to find out what brand is listed. This makes no sense and feels like unnecessary runaround. Basic information should be easy to access, especially for something as simple as your own prescription. Overall, very unprofessional, disorganized, and unreliable service. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The main reason for this rating was an indifferent service rep who was unwilling to respond to our queries although there was still 40 minutes left to close nor were there any other customers to attend to. It appeared that he was waiting to close shop and leave. Being covered by insurance, we asked what the lowest cost for frames would be as we would like to spend most of the amount on lenses. He refused to give us this information stating he needed to check our insurance. When we assured him that we were covered only then did he give us this information. Needless to say we will not be visiting this shop again.
I rate this particular location in journal Square 2stars just to be nice since the optometrist/optomologist does conduct very comprehensive exams. However the waiting area smells horrible like something died. They false advertise all designer frames as 50% off but charge you more than half that out of pocket. I paid $300 for Coach designer frames that should have been $259.50 based on the 50% displayed advertisements which they took downand or possibly adjusted after my complaint. $445 total for coach frames, prescription lenses etc that didn't even come in it's original case. When I asked why I was paying more than advertised the receptionist admitted the sign is falsely advertised but offered no resolution as far as compensation for the overpayment. The wait is supposed to be by appointment but it appears walkins are seen faster than appointments. This place looses major points for customer service and professionalism as the receptionist kust hangout chatting at the desk and always says they will call you back when you call in but never do. I will go to their Newport center location going forward.
