I’m usually a very tolerant person, but this is the first time I’ve given a one-star review. I am writing to express my frustration with the referral process at Vision First, which has been extremely disappointing and unprofessional. My child has anisometropia and astigmatism, and I requested a referral to a pediatric ophthalmologist. During my first contact, I provided the specialist clinic’s phone number and clearly explained the referral request. After waiting for a full week without any update, it became apparent that no one had contacted the clinic. I then took the initiative to contact the specialist’s office myself and obtained their fax number and email address, which I passed along to Vision First. However, I was given information for a location in Indiana rather than the Louisville office. After realizing the mistake, I called Vision First again, apologized for any confusion on my part, and asked them to resend the referral to the correct Louisville location. Although the referral was sent the second time, when I spoke with the specialist’s office, I was told that the referral did not mention my child’s anisometropia or astigmatism. It only stated that my child had failed a school vision screening. As a result, they could only schedule a basic vision exam rather than the necessary medical evaluation. I was instructed to contact Vision First yet again to have the referral corrected. So I had to call Vision First for the third time. I could feel that the staff was impatient and unprofessional. I was told the doctor has patients scheduled all day and will need to discuss this matter at a later time. So I called back to vision first next day. I could clearly sense that the staff’s attitude was extremely unprofessional and unfriendly. The staff said goodbye when I did not finish the conversation. In the end, it was my child’s pediatrician who completed the referral. To this day, Vision First has not given me any updates. I will never go to Vision First again.

Bad customer service. Several different employees at different times in the past year seemed either annoyed or on edge to just be doing their job. There were some misunderstandings about the script and our insurance, the Vision First employees were incorrect both times, but said no apologies, and as stated their general demeanors seemed either annoyed or uninterested in a paying customer. Maybe they havent noticed, money is getting tight for Americans, and we can certainly spend it elsewhere online for lower prices to avoid poor human interactions.
Excellent staff, great store! I'd gone here to simply get fitted for a new pair of glasses (had the exam elsewhere). The selection here is a bit overwhelming but with the expertise and assistance from Ace Optician JoAnn Hurle she quickly chose the perfect match for me. JoAnn has a gift for this and I highly recommend her to help choose the best match for you. This is a roomy, quiet store. Locating it from the road can be a challenge the first time. No handicap parking spaces close by.
Very disappointed. First they told my mom she had glaucoma which scared her to death and set an appointment with a specialist only to be told she does not have glaucoma. Then my wife has a condition of keratoconus and they recommended highly sclera lenses as a hybrid that would treat the condition. Well we were told that it would take multiple adjustments to get them seated properly and perscription correct etc. This would takes 4 or 5 adjustments over a 6 to 10 week period. My wife got used to wearing them but after a couple of hours there was glare and spots and everything became hazy and blurry. She tried everything they recommended and research herself and kept buying different products that people recommended to help. She called multiple times and went in early for the 1st adjustment only to be told that we get 1 shot at this. What happened to the 4 or 5 adjustments til we get it perfect? She couldn't stand it and made the ONE adjustment and the same issue kept happening. When she went in for the 2nd time she was told that she was part of the 1% that it doesn't work for and no other adjustments would work. Also, sorry no refund. So she is stuck with expensive contacts that DO NOT WORK. Yeah don't think we will be returning there. Unfortunately I feel as if we were mislead and cheated to be perfectly honest. They can say what they want but this is truth and the truth hurts.
I had been using this office, specifically Dr. Rabaut, for my annual vision exam for over 10 years. They have been great up until my most recent exam in November of 2023. They used the Optos and charged me for it even though the doctor didn’t look at the images. Also, the doctor wrote me a prescription and scheduled a follow up exam. I found out my insurance requires a prior authorization be filled out before they will cover eye drops. I called VisionFirst to explain this and the woman I spoke with said she would take care of it. Two weeks went by and my insurance still had no record of a prior authorization being filled out. I called the office and told them I was still waiting on a PA to get the eye drops and the woman said she would take care of it that day. Spoke with my insurance and they received the PA but said the prescription would have to be re-submitted. I spoke with VisionFirst and was told the eye drops would cost in upwards of $1500. The woman told me she would speak with Dr. Rabaut to see if she had an alternative solution and either she or the doctor would call me back the next day. Fast forward to February and I still have yet to receive a phone call and the prescription was never re-submitted. I called to cancel the follow up exam which was scheduled for 2/10 and I was told they didn’t have any record of my appointment (pics attached of schedule card. I won’t be back.
