Dr. Risher takes great care of my eyes. She always greets me with a smile. The wait time is usually minimal. I've got nothing but praise and thanks to Mullins Vision Associates.
I was initially very happy with Mullins Vision. However, after multiple recent disappointing experiences, I will not be returning. While I think Dr. Stephen Mullins is a nice and competent doctor, he did absolutely nothing to rectify an issue with the lenses I purchased from his office. I specifically sought out Zeiss Trivex lenses with anti-scratch coating, expecting durability similar to my previous Zeiss lenses (purchased elsewhere) that lasted 7 years. Instead, *two pairs* of Zeiss lenses from Mullins developed micro-scratches within 6 months. I take excellent care of my glasses, cleaning them only with lens cleaner and high-quality microfiber cloths; my previous pair lasting 7 years proves that. Upon reporting the issue, I was told the anti-scratch coating was likely only applied to the outside of the lens, which made little sense given the premium I paid. This was never explained at purchase, nor was I given the option to coat both sides, but I assumed they had. They warrantied one pair, but when the second pair scratched just as quickly, I was left with no option beyond buying another pair at full cost. I bought my concerns directly to Dr. Stephen who completely dismissed them, shifting the blame to the lab who manufactured the lenses, rather than standing behind the products his office sells. Dr. Stephen offered no discount, no assistance, nothing—just the expectation that I’d buy another pair at full-price, despite knowing how truly disappointed I was. I tried showing the issue to his team, but they didn’t seem to know how to properly inspect for the scratches. I explained that the micro-scratches could be best viewed by reflecting light onto the surface of the inside of the lens, but they continued looking through the lenses at a ceiling light—making the scratches nearly impossible to see. Given their experience with lenses, I expected better. While I'm not trying to get his team in trouble, I also feel that I was possibly lied to. When I was ordering my replacement lenses, I needed lenses cut for my current frames. I explained to their team member that the lab should have the pattern for my current frames on file as they had made me *two* pairs of lenses in roughly the last year, the most recent around 6 months ago. Their team member told me they claimed to have called the Zeiss lab, who supposedly said they had deleted my lens pattern. I found that hard to believe. Frustrated, I went to another optician who also works with Zeiss. Their office called the Zeiss lab—likely the same one Mullins uses—and, surprise, my pattern was still on file. The tiniest bit of effort from Dr. Stephen could have so very easily solved all this, but he just didn't seem to care. I trusted that, as the point of sale, he would have stood behind his products, especially when they fail so prematurely. I don't feel that I have been unreasonable in expecting a quality product that lasts beyond 6 months of use, especially not when I've purchased what I thought were top-tier lenses and coatings. Again, while I think he's a nice guy, a competent doctor, and his staff is friendly - at the end of the day, Mullins Vision left me hanging. There were so many missed opportunities to do both the right thing and also make things go so much smoother than they had. Just simply offering to cover *some* of my costs, and offering to swap my current lenses into my old frames (which fit because *your team originally sold them to me and even fitted my old lenses into them* on my first visit) would have instantly solved all of the problems—such simple, simple solutions guys, and each of them was missed. What should have been a *very* easy resolution quickly turned into an overly and needlessly frustrating ordeal, and ultimately, Dr. Mullins could have—and in my opinion, should have—done something, anything, just simply made *some* kind of effort, but he choose not to, and due to that, I've chosen to take my business elsewhere. I'm left frustrated, and exceptionally disappointed. -- ** What a disappointing & effortless canned response guys.
So disappointed. I’ve been a patient of this practice for years. I messed up setting the appointment alert to remind me and realized I would be 20 minutes late to my appointment. Zero budging to make it work after waiting months for my appointment. They tried rescheduling for a few days later, but it just really rubs me wrong that I’m asked to wait in their waiting room for my appointment to begin and nothing could be done to work this out beyond rescheduling. Another practice got me in quicker than Mullin’s proposed reschedule so I’ll be an Eye Centers of TN patient over 10 minutes ‘they just couldn’t do anything about’. Dr. Risher is amazing, but an inability to work with a patient they’ve had for years just makes it feel like they don’t need my business.
I have been a patient at Mullins for various years, Dr. Apple/Risher and Dr. Ralph have always been patient and informative during my visits. Their techs are always helpful when selecting new glasses. Most recently, I damaged my glasses at work and their techs were able to readjust and replace my glasses’s nose pads in just a few minutes! Love my experiences here!
