I decided that I wanted lasik, called Northern eye center to make an appointment and they happened to have a cancellation the next day with Dr Kerren. I told him that I was hoping to be healed in time for a family vacation. Dr. Kerren and his nurses were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Every bit of information they provided me with helped me feel comfortable and confident in my choice. When I went in for my pre op I had a long list of questions and didn’t have to ask any because they answered them all before I could ask. Jess the pre op nurse was so sweet. They all make going to the eye dr so enjoyable! The day of surgery I was pretty nervous and Dr. Kerren and his nurses were so good at helping me feel calm and relaxed including playing Christmas music for me! During the very quick procedure everyone involved made sure to explain every step. The healing was extremely quick and my sight was better than perfect by the next morning! I could not be happier with my entire experience!!

I have been so pleased with my experience at Northern Utah Eye Center. I would highly recommend them. They have been so attentive from day one. They are very accommodating with scheduling, etc. Dr. Christian Nilson has been very professional and has a very calm, comforting way about him that puts you at ease. He’s very thorough and good at explaining what he’s doing and what will be done. I have had one cataract removal and will have the other one done next week. I’m very pleased so far and look forward to seeing great in the future! Thanks Dr. Nilson and staff, you’re awesome!
I cannot express how disappointed I am in the service I received from Northern Utah Eye Center. I came in to renew my contact prescription and was given a prescription for half of what I had been wearing. I immediately told the technician and Dr. Karren that I couldn't see using the contacts, and instead of taking my concerns seriously, I was told to "just try them out for a couple of days to let your eyes adjust." The next day, I came back because I couldn't see well enough to drive or follow lectures in class. Dr. Karren's advice to this was to wear the new contacts at home and whenever I need to leave the house switch to my old contacts. That is hands-down some of the worst medical advice I've ever received. After a full week of back and forth, they finally gave me my old prescription. They didn't recheck my eyes or verify anything, just wrote it up and printed it out. To make things worse, a couple of months later, I received a text saying I owe them $20 extra, despite already paying $80 for the exam, which is far more than I've paid anywhere else. When I called to ask what this charge was for, I was told, "Billing will know," and then the call ended. I attempted to call back to the billing extension and did not get an answer nor a call back. Overall, this place felt completely unprofessional, and I would not trust them with your vision!
Dr. Freeman is awesome - I just wish she worked somewhere else. The office is busy, and their business processes are a thumbs down. 1 - Some of the front office staff acts like you are a nuisance. Unfriendly up front. 2 - I've been left waiting for long periods of time (nearly an hour), more than once in the waiting room (more on that below). 3 - The tipping point is that I just got a "Your account is being sent to collections" letter. I first saw it and thought "Oh, about time! They finally sent me the bill." But apparently it's not just a bill - it's a final bill before collections. On the first bill? Not my fault they never informed me sooner. I even ask on the way out "Do I owe anything today?" 4 - I think that somewhere along the lines with trying my new contact lenses that the left and right eye were switched; my vision is noticeably worse with my new pair than with my previous pair. Annoying for a nearly $500 pair of contact lenses (which I just learned is actually nearly $1,500, which I'm happy to pay! Just wish it wasn't through a "Your account is being turned over to collections" notice. This is the first letter I received.). 5 - A few years ago they had a notice up for a "refraction fee" and how they aren't covered by insurance so you need to pay for it out of pocket. I'm a self pay guy, so I scheduled an appointment where I indicated I didn't need the refraction. So I didn't get one. Upon checkout I learned that skipping the refraction wasn't an option for self payers. So I had to pay for the service that I never got. Absurd. 6 - I was once charged for a no-show fee. I can't remember if I was late, or I didn't show. Doesn't matte - I support the fee and I think that's a sensible business practice. But there's no compensation the other way around. When I'm held hostage in after being checked in and am not visited by anybody, they don't offer any refunds. Their time matters, and so does mine. So their office management is terrible. The practitioner is great.
To be honest did not have a great time here at all for my kiddo. He is autistic and I had asked if Dr. freemen was good with autism, just so you know she’s not. I asked not to do eye drops for him as I knew that would overstimulate him. But said they can’t do it without, so we did and yes he was overstimulated. Which led to him obviously not being completely obedient. I tried to sooth him and if given a few minutes I could have. But instead, they told us they can’t help us unless we put him under anesthesia… so we left with dilated eyes, and an overall bad experience. I later went to eyemart and they told me that eye drops aren’t needed unless diabetic, and guess what we got a prescription without the drops and the tears. Only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is the rest of the staff is nice, and I did have a good experience when my kid was tiny with Dr. Nielsen. (So maybe he is better with autistic kids) But as for this experience with Dr. Freemen, it was a bad experience. Might be great with neurotypical kids. But don’t recommend for neurodivergent kids.
