My journey with my eye has been a long one. It began in South Africa, where I underwent surgery for a retinal detachment and silicone oil was injected into my eye to help save my vision. After arriving in the United States, I was fortunate to continue my care at the Eye Department on the third floor of Northwestern Hospital at Irving Park, where Dr. Zhu and her outstanding team successfully removed the silicone oil. The care I received was exceptional from beginning to end. Dr. Zhu is not only highly skilled but also compassionate, reassuring, and professional. Every member of her team treated me with kindness and respect, making what could have been a stressful experience feel calm and positive. I was amazed by the state-of-the-art equipment, the efficiency of the staff, the immaculate cleanliness of the facility, and the smooth organization of every appointment. Everything reflects the highest standard of medical care. Today my eye has recovered so much that I feel incredibly optimistic. My vision continues to improve, and I hope to have my new prescription glasses very soon. I am deeply grateful to Dr. Zhu and everyone who cared for me. Thank you for helping me look forward to the future with renewed confidence. I wholeheartedly recommend Northwestern Hospital’s Eye Department to anyone needing expert eye care.

It also kind of pains me to write this as my primary care doctor was a lot nicer and more empathetic and a better listener than the ortho. However things did not get better within two years of seeing this person, and now the techs are trying to get tough with me thinking they have all the facts when they dont. They didn't even realize I was seeing neurology. Whoever is making the executive decisions at Northwestern Medicine should be fired. I do feel like if they gave this doctor more time to spend talking with me, things would have gotten figured out a lot sooner. Ironically I also have a radiculopathy and neuropathy diagnosis similar to the person below me.
It pains me so much to write this. It’s a beautiful facility and everyone was extremely professional and kind, however I presented with a pain issue that they could not diagnose. The provider in urgent care couldn’t have been nicer and more professional, and he listened and answered all of my questions, but I left without any diagnosis and no treatment. Went home, spent some time on ChatGPT and diagnosed myself with L5 radiculopathy and even developed a treatment plan, and saw improvement within a day. Had this diagnosis confirmed with another provider in another facility. I am baffled that the possibility of a pinched nerve never even occurred to them. I was sent home with “let us know if you figure it out”. Wow. I am pretty stunned by this. And sad because I thought this place would be a great resource to have so close to home. I hope the Medical Director sees this and makes appropriate improvements. Again, everyone was super kind and professional. The facility is clean and beautiful. I only waited about twenty minutes for urgent care- all positive. But it was a total waste of my time and money.
Don't bother making appointments - they canceled an appointment made months ago 2 weeks before and then did the same thing with the rescheduled appointment 3 months later. I have to schedule time off from work for appointments. If this happens once, fine, but twice is a pattern. The kicker was when I complained, they said it was due to the doctor having an emergency. I did not know emergencies could be scheduled 2 weeks out.
I love that NM added this location so I don’t have to drive to downtown or Lake Forest anymore. Dr. Casey Smith and his nurses are wonderful. Just need them to add pediatrics now!
