I don’t normally post like this, but I’m at my wit’s end. Maybe the internet can help. We got engaged and found a new construction home in January (love you booface @kevdannenberg). We were supposed to close last Friday. That didn’t happen. For two months, we’ve been living in boxes — preparing to move, chasing updates, and begging for honest answers. What we got instead: silence, broken promises, and misinformation. They told us “no problem” for May 21st, with an option for June 20th, just in case they needed more time. Fine they needed the later date but they wouldn’t tell us until the last minute, so all May we were preparing to move. All June, it was like any minute it could be ready. Two days before the final closing date, they tell us that they don’t have the permits for a Certificate of Occupancy. They knew earlier that week, but didn’t bother to tell us. Now we have: No new closing date. No signed contract extension. No communication. Just us, calling the bank, calling movers, paying again to extend our rate lock… wondering if we even have a place to live come Tuesday. Our lease is done and we have to move out of our apartment. Meanwhile, the house still isn’t finished. As of the day before the missed closing, the Nest wasn’t working. The roof needed some patching. There’s a large piece of construction equipment outside our home. Etc. Etc. If you’re considering buying from @ingermancompany , or working with @newconstructphilly or @themccannteam , please beware. The home might look great — but the process can be painful, confusing, and costly. They should at least to cover the expenses we’re incurring because of their delays. Though I’m wondering, what’s the value of all our wasted time? We're heartbroken. We were ready to build a future here, and now we don’t even know where we’re going to live. Shout out to our tireless realtor Kate Kyle at Philly Home Girls @ktphl, who’s dealing with this while on vacation! Our super communicative bank, American Heritage Credit Union, @americanheritagecu, who’s dealt with multiple last-minute closing cancellations. We just want to live and vote in Philly! What’s going on with our LNI hold? EDIT: YES this is you. We met with Joe DiSalvo last Thursday. Even if you didn't have the permit issue, would you have been able to close? We didn't have AC on 90+ degree weather the day before supposed closing. You didn't turn on the HVAC or hot water for our inspector when he came. We are people who need to plan our lives- you can't just expect to have the CO the day before closing. And to not check the permits until the week of! Edit2: We finally closed! The whole experience was grueling but we made it. I'll reserve the final review until our 1 year warranty is up.
