I have only wonderful things to say about every single person ( maybe 10 ?) who treated me during my first cataract surgery. They were efficient, attentive, and compassionate. My surgeon is a pro! The outcome is perfect! Thank you all.
RI Eye Institute is always a positive experience for me! As a patient who strives to be compliant with all instructions, the only issue that concerned me yesterday was that there was a (minor) discrepancy with dosing directions for one of my prescription eye drops. (I have corrected this on my end but will bring evidence validating my position on the issue to my next appointment; and in the meantime I will need to have an increase in this Rx to reflect treating both eyes rather than left eye only). Thank you for taking such excellent care of my vision!
While my experience with the doctor was positive, the administrative failures and dismissive treatment showed a complete lack of basic patient care. After my initial consultation, I was unable to schedule my procedure because the scheduler was unavailable. After more than a week without a callback and multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach someone by phone, I asked my doctor to help me secure an appointment. On the day of the procedure, I called ahead because I never received a confirmation and I was told everything was set. After driving 45 minutes, I was informed at check-in there was an outstanding balance and that I would have to either pay in full or reschedule. I had no knowledge of an outstanding bill so I contacted my husband who had documentation from the insurance company showing the consultation had been paid. Despite my proof, the front desk staff refused to look into what was clearly a billing issue on their end. She repeatedly said, it's not in my system" and "there is nothing I can do.” I said, I'm not paying the balance because it's already been paid, she then highlighted the number for their billing department and told me I needed call them myself. I explained that if I had been informed of this issue when I called two hours earlier, I could have resolved it before making the trip. In the end, I was given an ultimatum instead of assistance. I left without treatment and will not be returning.
The overall experience was welcoming and professional. The institute has free parking for patients. The check-in system is very efficient. What I liked the most was the personal attention. What I liked the least was opthalmologist technician insisting on putting the dilation eye drops when I explained that it could impede my driving home. Fortunately it worked out. Please listen to the patient. I would recommend this facility. Thank you!
