River Lake Clinic

Wanted to share my experience. I went in for a routine eye exam. I also have eye insurance and paid a very large bill after I was seen. From the start of the exam the doctor was trying to sell me supplements, products to clean my eyelids, and then diagnosing me with an eye condition that they still haven’t treated. I have called the office three times to talk about the medication and my experience and no one calls me back. The lack of follow through and patient relationship is non existent. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.

River Lake Clinic is the best! Both my wife and I have had great experiences with the folks at River Lake Clinic. They are thorough and ask pertinent questions during an exam, making sure they cover all the topics needed to ensure total eye health. If you’re looking for an eye doctor, you can’t go wrong with them!

I chose this clinic for the location, but very much regretted it as I had a horrible experience at this clinic. Dr. Hanen was extremely rude and sexist and treated me as if I knew nothing about my own personal experience. I recently had a baby and he proceeded to ‘mansplain’ my pregnancy and birth experience to me, but clearly had no idea what he was talking about as his comments were not factual or accurate in the slightest. I work in the medical field and was shocked by his lack of professionalism and how condescending he was. Additionally, I was told that my insurance would cover the cost of the exam, but after the fact, months later, received a text saying I owed a balance. The text seemed like a scam, and since they had told me it was covered I assumed it was a scam. However months later I received another text for a higher amount as they were now charging a late fee. I never received a notice in the mail nor a phone call. When I called the clinic to sort out the issue, the person who answered the phone laughed at me and was extremely unprofessional. Overall horrible experience here and advise all to search elsewhere for their care!

I've gone to this clinic for over 10 years. The eye care is solid. The level of organization, customer service and especially how they handle insurance has gone down hill. In the past 2 years, my insurance has rejected claims by River Lake even though it's the same insurance I've had for 10 years. Yes this could be an insurance issue. But the River Lake staff have not been helpful at all, even though they've observed this issue occasionally for other patients with my same insurance. Ridiculous.

After going to several different eye doctors, closer to my home, and more convenient, they cannot seem to get it right. I always end up going back to Dr. Josh. He understands, listens, and gets it right every time! I learned my lesson….going back to Dr. Josh from now on. He truly cares about his patients! In addition, the staff is phenomenal, the best! Thank you!
