I’m giving this place a one star review only because it won’t let me give ZERO!! I have had the absolute worst experience here, x4. Starting off with calling to schedule my appointment. I sat on hold for over an hour. When I finally spoke with someone I gave them all my information, insurance included. The soonest they could get me in was a month and a half from the call. I made my first appointment for May 22nd, just to show up and have them tell me my insurance wasn’t going to cover my appointment. This is something they should’ve known before I came in. If they can send me emails, texts, forms upon forms to fill out how am I just being told this the day of my appointment!? SO, I cancelled my appointment that I waited so long for and went home and figured out the insurance debacle myself. After getting that completed, I went to their app and scheduled another appointment with a different doctor who could get me in the soonest. I was NOT about to call and sit on the phone for an ungodly amount of time, AGAIN. I was able to get in June 1st for my second appointment. I was already anxious about going in because my first appointment was a flop and I was having to see a doctor I did not know. I get there, everything was going smoothly, the nurse started the actual appointment by checking my vision and pressure etc. After going through the basic exam, the nurse asks why I am there before the doctor comes in. I tell her I’m there for a simple comp exam to get my prescription renewed (which I feel like they should’ve already known anyway). I am then told that the doctor I scheduled an appointment with ONLY does neurological eye issues… which was not something specified to me on the app. I told the nurse this and she admitted that their app needed some work, and she felt bad about the whole situation. She then PERSONALLY scheduled me a new appointment for the right things with the right doctor, which I appreciated very much. Let me add, that I have a 3 year old who I have to get a sitter for EVERY time I have one of these appointments. BUT here we are, the day of my third appointment, June 10th. Even more anxious for this appointment because the last 2 weren’t successful. You’ll never guess what happened!! I get there ten minutes before my appointment at 9:50 and they tell me my appointment DOESN’T exist. I pull out the paper with my appointment on it that my nurse scheduled herself. They tell me it’s not on the schedule, and they can probably squeeze me in today at 12:30. I said “forget it, I will find a new place to go instead.” There was no way I was going to wait there for three hours, or leave and have to waste my gas driving BACK to this place. I have given them chance after chance after chance and been let down each time. I am extremely disappointed with my experience here and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, at least not until they get their stuff together.

Dr. Isen and her team at Southern Eye Group provided excellent care, but I especially want to recognize Maya, Dr. Isen’s technician. Maya was absolutely amazing. From the moment she assisted me, she was professional, kind, patient, and made me feel completely comfortable. Her dedication and compassion truly stood out, and it is easy to see that she takes pride in what she does. Maya is the kind of person who makes a patient feel seen, heard, and cared for. Dr. Isen was very thorough and took the time to explain things and address my concerns. Although the wait time may be a little longer, after my visit I understood why. The care, attention, and professionalism made it worth it. A very special kudos to Maya — she is truly awesome and deserves to be recognized! The best way to develop trust (and in today's climate, that's a continuous hope/quest for patients) is to find out how a business responds to a mistake. We had a scheduling issue that could have cost me money, they immediatelly and as cheerfully as possible resolved the problem without hesitation. AND the physician and staff treated me as a peer/patient, not a minion which is always a nice thing to do. Great care. Thank you.
Cataract surgery this morning at Providence Hospital. All went well! Next week he will remove the cataract from my other eye. Dr. St. John is a caring, knowledgeable ophthalmologist. His office staff is kind and courteous. My husband uses him too, for an autoimmune eye disease. So happy we found Dr. St. John. We moved last year to retire closer to the beach from Birmingham where we had great doctors at our fingertips at UAB and ophthalmologists at The Eye Foundation Hospital. We have been blessed with an abundance of wonderful doctors and surgeons here and near Mobile, AL!
I have not had a good experience with this group. It was very difficult to make an appointment initially. The appointment and Dr. Slade was good but then I was supposed to have an appointment for contact fittings. They never scheduled it for me. Then they charged me for a contact fitting appointment that they never scheduled for me! If it was scheduled, they never informed me or sent a single reminder. I wanted to get contacts and needed this appointment but now ive been charged *and my insurance! and never received that service.
