Surgical Eye Care

The staff and doctors are all incredibly caring and compassionate. This has been such a different experience from our previous eye care provider, where my parents had been patients for many years. There, it often felt like an assembly line where patients were rushed through, questions weren’t fully answered, and there was very little personal attention. At one visit, my mom was even given expired medication by a nurse, which was very upsetting. Here, everyone genuinely cares about their patients’ well-being. They take the time to listen, answer questions, and make you feel heard. Dr. Patrick was ready to go to the clinic on a Saturday evening & on Sunday to help my mom, and that level of dedication and compassion meant so much to our family. You never feel like you’re just another patient or a number, they truly put their patients first. That’s exactly why I gladly drive an hour each way to bring my parents here. I recently became a patient at this exceptionally well run practice. The staff are very pleasant and efficient. The office has a friendly atmosphere with a minimal wait time. Dr. Shafer and Dr. McManamon identified a rather serious vision condition, thoughtfully explained and involved me in deciding how to treat and within a week, the situation is under control. They are obviously extremely knowledgeable and could not be nicer.

My husband and I both had an amazing experience with Dr. Pat and Dr. Shafer. From the moment we walked in, we felt comfortable, like we had been a patient for years. I found out about Shafer Vision Institute by attending an appointment for my husband. I was very impressed with the whole experience from check in, the whole eye exam and the unhurried consultation with the doctors. They took time to explain everything and help make the appropriate decisions for his cataract surgery. I knew before we left I was going to make an appointment for myself. I had mine yesterday 7/1 an again was impressed with the complete what I call “Chair side manner”. They again took the time to explain everything to me. I had PRK eye surgery in April of this year. The doctors were very thorough and informative with the scans taken before the surgery, explaining what the surgery entailed, and the aftercare instructions. After my initial assessment, they explained why they didn’t feel Lasik surgery was an option for me, and even consulted with each other as I was boarder-line with being eligible, but ultimately decided against it because they didn’t want to take any chance of it not going well. They went onto explain why they felt PRK was a safe option for me, answered all of my questions, and made me comfortable in making my decision to get the surgery.
