Had a great experience at Switalski Eye Care – West Plano! Dr. Ho was quick, efficient, and thorough, and the entire appointment was probably the fastest eye appointment I’ve ever had (in the best way possible). They also had really cool technology for the eye tests, which made everything feel smooth and modern. Everyone in the office was so kind and welcoming too. One thing I liked is that this location is focused on the eye exam/doctor side of things, and then once Dr. Ho writes your prescription, you can go right next door to Visionworks to shop for glasses. Super convenient overall. Highly recommend!

This took place at approximately 10am on Friday, 8/21/26 - I have been an established patient at the Switalski West Plano Optometry Clinic for more than three years and have gone there for my annual eye exams. Unfortunately, after my experience today, I have decided to take my business elsewhere. A staff member called to remind me of my appointment for tomorrow. After confirming the appointment, she told me I would have approximately a $74–$75 copay. Because I work in healthcare and am very familiar with my insurance benefits, that amount immediately seemed unusually high. I then remembered that at my exam last year, I was told my actual copay was approximately $35, with an additional charge of around $25 for an optional eye health exam. I asked the representative whether the amount she quoted included that optional service, and she confirmed that it did. My concern was simple: an optional service should not be presented to a patient as though it is part of their required copay. Telling someone that their “copay” is $75 creates the impression that this is their financial responsibility under their insurance plan, when in fact part of that amount is for an elective service that the patient can decline. I tried to explain this distinction to the representative. Rather than acknowledging the concern or simply clarifying the charges, she quickly became defensive and agitated. Her manner was rude and unprofessional, and she hung up on me abruptly. Compounding the problem, from the beginning of the call she seemed to be struggling with basic information about my appointment. She did not appear certain of the appointment time and seemed unsure which provider I was scheduled to see. I do not enjoy leaving negative reviews, particularly for a practice I have used for several years. However, the people answering the phones and interacting with patients are the front door of a medical practice. They represent the clinic just as surely as the clinical staff do. There are many optometrists to choose from, and after being treated this way, I will be establishing care elsewhere. After more than three years as a patient, the clinic can thank the individual who made today's reminder call for losing my business.
