While I have been a patient at the Scheie Eye Institute for over 15 years, I must be honest that the wait times are consistently frustrating. You should fully expect to wait at least an hour for your appointment, which is unfortunately a standard experience here. However, it is vital to balance this critique with the exceptional level of care and kindness I have received from the staff over the years. My recent visit for a glaucoma checkup reminded me why I keep coming back. While the long wait was discouraging, once I was seen, the medical team was incredibly precise, caring, and professional. It is clear that the scheduling issues are a systemic hospital matter rather than a reflection on the doctors, who are outstanding. I want to specifically highlight the front desk staff, particularly Mrs. Rashana. She has been there for years and serves as the gold standard for professionalism and kindness. Even when I returned the next day with an unexpected issue regarding my vehicle, she and her manager went out of their way to assist me, ensuring I felt supported rather than just like another number. In short, while the wait times at Scheie are arguably the worst I have ever experienced, the staff—from the front desk to the clinical team—are truly dedicated, compassionate, and committed to your health. If you can navigate the scheduling challenges, you are in excellent, caring hands.

I agree that the wait time was long (that was why I put 4 stars). But after reading the reviews about wait time, I brought a bottle of water, book and power bank for the long wait. I also brought several disposable face mask as I read about the smell(?), although I did not really notice any bad bad smell. I went there as walk-in/same day appointment due to an urgent concern. I arrived around 12:30pm and left the place around 4pm. Despite of long wait time, the service I received today was great. Every single staff (from check-in to check-out, technicians and doctors) was very attentive and kind. I believe that the long wait time is because the technicians and doctors really check your conditions thoroughly, pay attention to your concerns and try to help you in any possible ways. Technicians and doctors checked my eyes thoroughly and answered to questions I had. I really appreciate everyone for their services today. But yes, the wait time is long.. so better prepare for it. There are some outlets for patients, so you can bring a plug/charger for your devices if needed. Oh and there was a water dispenser as well.

Made an appointment over phone, gave all the insurance information then we went there and they say it’d be $250 charge because they don’t take our insurance. I asked them why didn’t they tell us before when the person on phone took the appointment? The (2nd floor) front desk guy says oh sorry about it maybe they didn’t know. Then I ask which other doctor there are, who’d have this insurance? He makes another appointment for the following week. My parents go there today and the lady says they either don’t take this insurance. SO WHY WOULD NOT THE SECOND FLOOR RECEPTIONIST WONT TELL ME instead of making another appointment and insuring me that yes Dr. Lee takes your insurance?! Both my parents and I had to take 2 days off of work for that bull crap! SO UPSET AND IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I really want to make a complaint because 2 days taking off work 3 people together then not even be able to do what we came here for, wasted money on gas and our valuable time! I wish I could make a complaint against that guy.

I’ve been coming to this clinic for years, at times the wait can be very long to see the doctor. But overall, I am very thankful To have my Eyesight. I’ve had many issues with my eyes and have seen many doctors. The road has not been easy, but the outcome. has been good for the most part. I’m grateful to the Doctors at this clinic for taking care of me.

My mother made two attempts to get her cataract removed at this facility, unfortunately due to her HBP on top of her anxiety, her pressure failed and the procedure was canceled twice. The problem with this is they didn't have a plan after first attempt failed, had to go back to her PCP to get medical clearance after rescheduling for 2nd attempt. Letter was written, and they didn't even seemed to care after 2nd attempt failed. I tried to reach them several times as well as her PCP, and neither one of us had any luck... Therefore, I would advise anyone NOT to get your cataract removed esp if you have HBP. The surgeon who been checking on her eyes nearly a year, didn't seem to show any compassion even after the two failed attempts. They were very unprofessional, and nobody should be treated the way my mother ended being treated. We will have better luck elsewhere, where I'm sure there will be a better, well organized plan of action when it comes to getting cataract removed esp when it comes to a senior citizen.
