She explained everything in a way that both my son and I could easily understand, even drawing a picture of his eye to show us exactly where the scratch was and what was happening. That simple gesture made something scary feel much less overwhelming.
What meant the most, though, was the compassion she showed my son. She recognized how disappointed he was that he would likely have to miss a trip he had been looking forward to, took the time to acknowledge those feelings, and reassured him throughout the visit. She even arranged to see him first thing the next morning to evaluate his healing and help determine whether traveling would be safe.
