Made an a yearly appointment for a contact exam. First appointment they told me they were gonna up the power of my contact prescription so they wanted to do a follow-up exam. Cool. Tried to sell me contact lenses for the new prescription luckily I said no. 2 weeks later get the new contacts in and they aren’t the right prescription so I have to do another follow-up. Tried to sell me contacts for the new prescription again. 3 appointment later my doctor shows up late. Rushes through the exam. Still can’t read any of the damn letters on the board with the new contacts and she goes “ok we are going to go with this.” Figuring ok my eyes just need to get adjusted she knows what she’s doing. It’s been about a month. The prescription is wrong again. I can’t see shit, can’t read and now I’m having constant headaches. Just over the whole thing. Guess I’ll be paying for a whole new appointment at Americas Best to get the right damn contact lenses.
This is quite a long review but necessary. I’ve been going to eye doctors since I first entered college. Over the years, I have been a patient with many doctors. During that time, I have had good experiences and bad experiences, the worst being in November, 2023, a few days after Thanksgiving, when I was seemingly rushed through the entire examination process with two negative results. First, I was neither able to see clearly with my eyeglasses nor my contact lenses. Second, and most horribly, even though I wore an N-95 mask, I contracted Covid with the first symptoms rearing their ugly heads three days later. As a result, I was stuck in my room for 23 days and didn’t test negatively until December 23rd! Little did I know, I had mild Chronic Kidney Disease at the time and this dropped me down an entire stage in severity. I have not recovered to this very day. This horrific experience caused me to stop seeing eye doctors for fear of having my kidneys affected once again. Well, 2 ½ years later, my eyesight had gotten so bad that my eyeglasses and contacts became totally useless. I was now experiencing migraine headaches. I just had to see an eye doctor. So, I did some research and settled on Visionworks in nearby Turnersville, NJ. What I can state, without question, is that this Visionworks office is the Mercedes of eye care facilities! From making my first appointment online, to receiving the end products, everything was great. When I first walked into the “showroom,” I was warmly greeted by the receptionist, Caryl, who was smiling and seemed genuinely happy to see me. I was not questioned by anyone about my wearing a mask. My initial impression of the facility was that it was large, bright, clean and welcoming. I had already filled out the required forms online so I didn’t need to waste time with those. I waited about 2 minutes when I was taken back to a room where my eyes were tested by reading an eye chart. I had an eye air puff test to check for glaucoma and I was tested for color blindness. I was then brought into the eye exam room. Who greeted me was a doctor who wore a mask and gloves and wiped down all of the equipment with alcohol that would touch my face! That immediately relieved ALL of my stress and concerns completely! Here the major evaluations were performed like I had never seen before. I saw images of the back of my eyes on a computer and this most wonderful doctor of optometry (who, sadly, asked to remain nameless) explained every single test as she performed them. She gave me the very BEST eye exam I had ever received! She was thorough, kind, understanding and most professional. She answered every question without hesitation. Back in the showroom, Caryl told me to take my time to look at the huge number of frames in every price, style and brand. I was overwhelmed by the enormous selection. I made my selection and was then greeted by a smiling Jocelyn who sat me at a desk and thoroughly explained the items that made up my bill, showing what my insurance paid and what I would owe. The final price was most reasonable comparable to what I had paid in past years. Jocelyn was so down-to-earth and felt like a friend I had known for years. She informed me of approximately when my trial pair of contacts and glasses would be ready. The bottom line is that I am able to see clearly with BOTH my contact lenses and my eyeglasses for the first time since 2006! Every person with whom I came in contact was unbelievable in how I was treated. I am extremely happy. This office now has my business. If I were asked to offer a grade for its services, it would be an easy choice: A+. Thank you to everyone at Visionworks of Turnersville, NJ! Respectfully, Jim Planamente PS: By the way, they offer a 100-Day Guarantee with no strings attached. I know because I returned my frames after one week. I made the wrong choice in their size and weight on my nose. I was not questioned and Jocelyn happily took care of everything for me. I have another frame arriving soon and was not charged a single penny for the service!
After visiting VisionWorks on two separate occasions, I am extremely disappointed with the treatment I received. Based on my experience and what I observed in the store, I strongly feel that I was treated differently than white customers. The representative who assisted me both times displayed clear agitation and impatience when I asked basic, reasonable questions. Instead of receiving professional customer service, I felt dismissed and disrespected. This behavior was not only inappropriate but unacceptable. In addition, I was originally quoted a price for my frames. When that price later increased, I asked a simple and fair question—to confirm and honor the original quoted amount. The representative refused to provide the original pricing information when asked, which raises serious concerns about transparency and fairness in your business practices. As a paying customer, I expect to be treated with respect, honesty, and consistency. My experience fell far below those expectations. I am requesting a formal review of this situation and accountability for how this interaction was handled.
I usually go somewhere else but they got pricey so I saw this place online for bogo or 50% off. So when I got here the only thing that's inconvenient is no real places to sit and wait. The staff was nice, very accommodating. The doctor was very nice and professional. She showed me things in my eye that other doctors had not. I'm definitely coming back here, I saved a lot of money with their 50% off.
