I rarely leave negative reviews, but after giving this office multiple chances over the past year and a half, I feel compelled to share my experience. To be fair, Dr. Khadah was excellent and I appreciate the quality of the eye surgery and medical care provided. My issue is entirely with the office operations and patient experience. The waiting times at Associated Retina Specialists are completely unacceptable. Nearly every visit requires taking half a day off work. Patients routinely wait 2–3+ hours, even for scheduled appointments. As an example, after my eye surgery I avoided coming in for recommended follow-up visits simply because of how exhausting and disruptive the process was. I previously submitted a complaint regarding the excessive wait times, hoping things would improve. Unfortunately, after returning again a year and a half later, nothing has changed. Today, after already waiting over an hour and a half, I politely asked the front desk about the delay and was met with a defensive response stating that appointments “usually take about 2.5 hours.” That should never be considered normal or acceptable for a medical office, especially for patients balancing work, family, and health concerns. Again, Dr. Khadah was professional and skilled, but the office management and scheduling experience have made this my last visit here. I cannot recommend this office unless you are prepared to lose several hours of your day for every appointment.

Average wait time is 2-4 hrs. That is not an exaggeration. First let me start off by saying Dr. John Khadem is a great doctor. He performed my retina hole seal surgery and I get compliments from other eye doctors about what a great job he did. If I ever need any kind of eye surgery I would go to him. However my low star review is due to the insane wait times. The other reviews complaining about it in fact are correct. You will wait on average 2-4 hours to see the doctor for 5-10 minutes. In my visits here I’ve personally seen a woman storm out stating she could not handle her wait time anymore. She was there for 4+ hours. In my last visit, it was over 3.5 hours. Throughout that long wait time the staff will have to perform several tests and dilation. You will need to bring a snack so you don’t starve. That itself is insanity at a doctor’s office. I wish I could give a higher star review because I like Dr. Khadem. But this medical office’s management is terrible. Patients have been complaining about the inexcusable wait times for years now, and nothing has changed. If anything, it has become worse based on my last visit waiting 3.5 hours for a yearly 5-10min checkup. Going forward I will be going to another office. If you are thinking of choosing this one, expect anywhere from 2-4 hour long waits. Otherwise, look elsewhere.

I had retinal detachment while away from home on a business trip but had the great fortune of being referred to Dr. Khadem who saw me as soon as I returned to New York. Now, after 17 months of his care in several procedures, my sight has returned completely. Through this entire journey, he was kind and patient, explaining what needed to be done, and what to expect during recovery. It was because of this and his very competent skills that I can see again. I couldn’t be more grateful for what he has given me. To those who have complained about wait times I would say that to provide such detailed and comprehensive care, it takes time, time that you would be grateful for when your turn comes.

I came in for an injury that had me come in three times. I was never seen less than forty minutes after my appointment was meant to start, and never got out of there in under four hours. Doctor Khadem may or may not be a good doctor— for what it’s worth, I found him brusque, unhelpful, & unwilling to explain anything to me— but he has clearly prioritized his bottom line over the time of his patients.

This clinic has serious issues with timely record delivery (exceeding HIPAA limits) and lacks transparency about provider credentials. Patients should double-check if their doctor is actually the specialist they were referred to. Unprofessional experience.
