I had the worst doctor's office experience of my adult life here several months ago. I wanted to give myself a bit of time before writing a review just to make sure I wasn't upset for no reason. So please believe me when I say, I have the time and clarity to recommend that you absolutely NEVER give this man your business; the ladies working there are angels. I am 30 years old and he told me that I am developing macular degeneration, very off the cuff. After reading some other reviews, I see that he has done something similar many times (and there are no known cases of anyone developing this disease at my age). After dropping this bomb on me, he tried selling me up-priced eye vitamins directly from his office. I believe it to be highly unethical to try and scare your patients into buying supplements that you will also profit from. After this, he told me that I need to lose weight. Believe me, as a 30 year old woman who works out, and is on a weight loss journey (I've already lost over 35 pounds, and am also using a GLP-1) did I need him to tell me that? Nope. And my actual doctor never has. He then AGAIN tried to sell me on a miracle supplement that "completely cuts out your appetite;" again, directly from his office, where I am SURE he benefits monetarily from the sale. After knowing I am already taking a GLP-1. I then get my glasses. They made me sick to my stomach, nauseous, and dizzy. I tried wearing them every day for a week. I came back in to say that something was wrong. When I tried describing what was wrong with the lenses, he had absolutely ZERO empathy or understanding. I would try describing what I was seeing (as a layperson, who did not study eyes in college) and then would ask if that made any sense. His answer was always "no, I don't know what you're talking about." Which made me feel so unheard and left me in shock. At one point I asked him a question for clarification, and he ignored me entirely. I sat there in silence waiting for an answer or even acknowledgment, and he just ignored me (it was obvious that he was super annoyed with me). He then told me that he had made me a trial pair of my glasses on my first visit, and that I should not have okayed the trial pair if they weren't right. This shocked me, because I never tried on anything. When I said this, he accused me of lying. When I doubled down because I didn't know what he meant by "trial pair" he gaslit me and said that "if that is true, I'm sorry, but I've been doing this for years and I do that every single time, so I'm not sure why I wouldn't with you." I hope you get the gist by this point. I was in the office for 3 more hours after this trying to just get usable glasses since I had already paid for them. I ended up crying in the lobby, and one of the ladies who works there must have told him to be nicer to me, because the next time I went into the office he started telling me that I was a "good girl" when I read the chart, and some other infantilizing hogwash. He also told me that I would likely need eye surgery because of this issue with my eyes. This was my first time hearing this too. Eventually, I just begged him to give me the same prescription that I had before so I could just leave. He then told me that "there is the objective truth and the subjective truth. There is what your eyes need, and what you are willing to tolerate." As an intelligent young lady, I have never felt so offended, talked down to, infantilized, gaslit, and upset by ANY doctor appointment, let alone an EYE DOCTOR appointment. I felt awful about myself and my body upon leaving here, and I will never return. I personally felt like there were so many shady business practices happening here, and I have zero trust in Dr. Lowe. Please proceed with caution. I also see from reading other reviews that this man has a tendency to not handle a bad review with kindness, and so I am putting myself out there like this knowing I may regret it, but I hope it will help someone else avoid the same horrific and scarring experience. I have thought about it every day for months.

We absolutely love Dr. Lowe and his staff. He’s great with kids and genuinely loves what he does. His staff is warm and welcoming. As long as he’s practicing optometry he’ll always have us as patients 🩷

We moved to the Detroit area a couple years and Bayne was recommended to me, since I needed my distance / driving glasses replaced. I am entirely pleased; Dr Lowe's exam was complete and concise; they combine modern optical equipment with judgement from experience; and while one might wish for a bit more frame selection, one might wish for the world as well. I can finally see properly at a distance, and Dr Lowe's recommendations for my eye health going forward seem to me to be both pertinent and practical. I plan to have my wife visit, and I'll be back for my computer range glasses. Definitely recommended.
