Found this clinic through referral from a colleague. My previous eye doctor was bought by Clarkson and the Clarkson private equity immediate squeeze every last dollar and bombard you with upsells and text messages and constant hassle was awful. So glad to find a private practice shop and leave that mess behind. Impressed with the level of technology in the practice, and the high level of care and expertise in every person I interacted with, from the front desk to the doctor to lens selection. I was having eye strain issues from my last glasses with Clarkson and when my prescription wasn't that different, the Dr. immediately zeroed in on a likely cause (cheap polycarb lenses). After wearing my new glasses a couple weeks, pretty sure he was right. Also very much appreciated an up front clear and transparent bill, automatic sending of my new prescription, and overall an experience that made me feel like a customer, not cattle being rushed through the fences.

honestly one of the best eye appointments i’ve had. all three staff members i worked with before seeing the doctor were exceptionally nice and took the time to explain everything instead of just rushing me through. that alone set the tone. then the doctor himself was great. he actually explained the science behind why i needed dilation, and it’s the first time in 15 years i’ve let a doctor do it. nobody had ever bothered to tell me why before, but once he walked me through it i actually wanted to do it. after that he showed me all the pictures of my eye, the different areas and what he was looking at. i loved that. if i’m gonna sit through the test i might as well see what’s going on in there. he also helped me find a pair of contacts that actually fit my needs, and gave me a ton of info about lasik, whether i’d be a good candidate, and the reasons for and against it. didn’t feel like a sales pitch, just real info so i could make my own call. can’t recommend this place enough.
Dr. Carney is clearly a skilled clinician. My exam and refraction were comfortable, the glasses were delivered quickly, and the office generally communicated promptly, although the responses were usually brief. My concern is narrower, but important for anyone seeking the most fully individualized ZEISS lens workflow. During my fitting, I was not taken through or educated about a complete “as-worn” measurement process. In particular, I was not offered an explanation or documented measurement of back vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt, or frame-wrap angle—the parameters describing how the selected frame actually sits on the wearer’s face. The ZEISS Rx Verification I later obtained records my monocular PD and fitting height, but leaves all three of those as-worn fields blank. I was also not told whether actual measurements or default values would be used. To be clear, this was not a completely non-personalized lens order. The order included i.Scription, monocular PD, and fitting height. My concern is that it was not the complete, transparent, “best of the best” individualized workflow that I expected when purchasing a premium ZEISS Individual lens. I also was not subsequently provided with a job-level record showing what values, if any, were used for the blank parameters. There was also avoidable confusion in the product documentation. My receipt and ZEISS verification used the older “SmartLife Individual” terminology, and the verification showed an SLI74 marking. After I investigated, ZEISS told me that the lenses were actually SmartLife Individual 3 because the previous-generation design had been phased out in the U.S. and the legacy order was mapped to the newer design. I appreciate ZEISS clarifying this, and I am not alleging that Benchmark sold me an older-generation lens. However, regardless of whether the legacy terminology originated with Benchmark’s system or ZEISS’s ordering platform, a premium optical practice should reconcile and explain outdated or inconsistent product naming before delivery. A customer should not have to reconstruct the exact product version more than a year later. For a routine eye exam and a straightforward pair of glasses, many patients may be very satisfied here, and my medical experience with Dr. Carney was positive. My warning is specifically for customers pursuing an ultra-premium, fully customized lens project. Before ordering, I would recommend obtaining written confirmation of: - the exact ZEISS design and generation; - which measurements will be taken on the adjusted frame; - which values, if any, will be defaulted; - and whether monocular PD, fitting height, back vertex distance, pantoscopic tilt, frame wrap, and age/DOB will appear in the final order documentation. I would not personally use this office again for another highly individualized ZEISS project without those confirmations.
We visited this practice based on consistent recommendations from many over the years, and I’m so glad we finally did! Dr. Carney was extremely thorough examining all 3 of our children, and he thoroughly discussed all vision correction options appropriate for each of them. The office was extremely accommodating working to get us in with our busy schedule, and they worked to determine our most valuable covered insurance options before we even picked out glasses! It’s obvious to me why he’s been in practice well over 30 years in our community.
Dr. Carney helped me see again! I was having to throw on my cheaters while wearing my contacts coming up to stop lights to judge distance to the car in front of me. He got me into so bifocal contacts that work amazing. I am now wearing progressive tri-focal glasses and they are awesome. They were patient and sweet when i tried on like 2 dozen pairs of glass because I am very picky. Overall I think they do a great job. I am very happy with the doctor and his staff. Got my glasses back super quick too.
