I had an excellent experience at Berkeley Eye Center at the Shops Downtown. From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly and welcoming, making the entire visit smooth and comfortable. The office is clean and well-organized, and the atmosphere is calming. Dr. Spencer Obie was incredibly thorough, taking the time to explain everything during the eye exam and answering all of my questions. I felt confident in the care I received and appreciated their attention to detail. I highly recommend this practice for anyone looking for professional and compassionate eye care.

I was frazzled! I was very anxious about this appointment. I parked outside of what Google Maps said was the building. There weren’t any numbers on the building that I could find. I wasn’t confident that I was in the correct location. So I asked the map and it took me across the street. Frustrated, because now I’m 2 minutes late, I called the office. A woman answered the phone. I told her that I was lost. I told her exactly where I was, on McKinney between San Jacinto and Caroline. She basically told me to walk away from San Jacinto. Told me that I could go through Pappas. Pappas was LOCKED! Then I walked towards San Jacinto and tried to open the doors with film that advertised the building. I pulled and pulled and they were locked too. She INSISTED that the doors were unlocked saying in a condescending manner, “they are never unlocked”. So I told her that I was walking towards PuttShack. And she asked if I saw the escalator. I said yes. I opened the door. I asked her if I was supposed to take the escalator and she hung up in my face! A security guard helped me instead. When I reached the office, she didn’t even acknowledge my presence or anything. However, the man who checked me in was very nice. The lady who performed the first part of my eye exam was also nice. She was quiet. Didn’t say much. But still very nice. The doctor (Dr. Spencer Obie) was very nice. He made me feel comfortable. He talked about eyes and he cracked some jokes. And finally, the lady who helped me pick out frames and get me all squared away was also very nice. And there was a lady who asked me if I had been helped. Super nice. My appointment went well. There were lots of frames to choose from. I didn’t have trouble finding a parking spot. I would recommend and I would return.
Not very happy with staff or experience, I spent my first visit with them in April and received my contact lens prescription and my eyeglass prescription. The contact prescription that was prescribed is a brand I can only get at their office. I've called twice now Requesting them to change the brand because I am now out of the ones I had prior to my visit with them. I'm told they're gonna leave a note for the doctor and still no follow up. Now I'm being told I will be charged $50 To be seen again if I want changed. Which is ridiculous. The prescription has not even expired.. thankfully, I was able to find an office that could help fixed the issue and ordered A different brand less than 24 hrs and have a trial with my new insurance they also couldn't locate. For a simple as my prescription Shouldn't have been this hard.
I wasn't expecting to leave the clinic with a huge grin! Dr. Spencer Obie is the coolest guy ever! He is extremely knowledgeable and took the time to answer all my questions. I love meeting providers who are genuinely passionate about their work. The staff is always willing to help and answer my questions, but the highlight of this practice is definitely Dr. Obie!
I had an amazing visit. The process was seamless from check-in to dismissal. The staff was extremely pleasant and professional. The technician Ms. Jennifer was very caring and went over and beyond the call of duty. I was a bit nervous regarding the exam, but her disposition and courtesy was quite reassuring. She explained every aspect of the exam and the rationale for the need. Dr. Obie was very patient and kind. He explained the state of my vision and the plan of care, in great detail. He discussed the results of the imaging and educated me in the process. I don't remember the name of the gentleman who checked me in for the visit, but he was so compassionate. The staff referred to him as the " office manager ". He should be commended, as he worked diligently to ensure that I was served, the day that I presented to the eye center. I am one hundred percent satisfied with my visit and I have already referred many people to the Berkeley Eye Center Downtown location. I am grateful that I chose this center. God placed me in the presence of some individuals who were passionate about their job and it was displayed in their service.
