My father is a patient here, a week ago he had surgery on tuesday he was experiencing extreme discomfort. They did not do a full exam sent him home with new eye drops, wendsday afternoon his eye has swelled substantially with discharge coming out. Two techs come in to measure eye pressure neither can get a reading, I ask the nurse what his eye pressure was she was stand offish says she doesn't know she hasn't read the chart. Doctor haddock comes back in and I ask him, his scribe then refers to the chart and says 12 then realizes that was yesterday and then says oh we didnt do it today. I say yes you did two techs came in and couldn't get accurate readings. The doctors and nurses barely acknowledged my existence, they were rude when I asked questions, I stepped out of the room. My father comes out says rhat we have to go the hospital in miami. Asks if i know where it is I said no, he said oh the doctor and nurse were asking where you were. But they couldn't be bothered to step into the waiting room. I have never had such poor and unprofessional service

I’ve been coming to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Palm Beach Gardens for the past 6 years. It’s a busy, bustling practice. From check in to check out the entire process runs like a well-oiled machine. They tell you upfront to expect to spend 2 to 4 hours for appointments. But patients say it’s worth it for the excellent care, attention and expertise of the doctors. Plus they offer snacks and refreshments while you wait. The staff is always professional and courteous. But Joseph is especially worthy of commendation. This was my first time meeting him and I immediately felt at ease. He has a very pleasant, conversational manner. He brings a positive energy to routine eye tests and pressure checks. Joseph exceeded my expectations when I brought a maintenance emergency to his attention. He took ownership and found someone in maintenance to take care of it right away. Kudos to Joseph for going above and beyond!
Is zero stars an option? Shocked with the experience my wife just had. She won’t take another moment thinking about the idiocy, so I will… She set an appointment (lenses). The appointment was scheduled over a month and an half out. While not ideal, it’s close to the house and not a huge deal as it wasn’t an urgent situation. With the appointment just a few days out (a full month after originally scheduled), she gets a text that her appointment was cancelled. When she called (in disbelief), they said they have an opening for sometime in March! Reason for their decision to cancel on my wife after over a month wait time? “The doctors have decided to limit the number of contact lenses appointments per day.” So in short, “no inconvenience for us, all the inconvenience on you - the potential customer”. REALLY? I was listening to it all go down - thought it was a joke! Save yourself the likely frustration. But shame on us - we should have looked to see how bad the reviews were on here before giving em a try. Yikes!
I had cataract surgery by Dr Maharaj. His communication skills are appalling. The day after the surgery when I went to my scheduled appointment I was terrified as I could see a dark shadow in my peripheral vision. When I asked what it could be, he chose not to give any explanation. He said he had done a “perfect” job of placing the lens. He rushed out of the room as I was mid sentence asking whether my vision would be restored. He said his office manager would answer my questions. She was not able to. To be able to get answers, I had to return to Bascom Palmer and be seen and tested multiple times by a different doctor. I am still dealing with the problem 6 months after the surgery. I chose not to go back to Dr Maharaj for my second eye cataract removal. I had excellent results in Dr Ryan O’Meilia’s care.
Very disappointed with their billing department. I had 2 cataract surgeries last year at Bascom Palmer. For some reason, for the surgery on 5/29/25, they charged me twice for the lens. I have been disputing this obvious error since last year and have had no result to date. The neverending review has been taking months and it is still not completed. Very incompetent staff in that department!!!
