Carrboro Family Vision has provided us with 10 years of superb service - not one negative experience. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The doctors listen to you and the communicate in a way that non-physicians can understand. My most recent visit was with Dr. Leslie Dunn. She took time to thoroughly answer my questions and explain results of my exam. Another perfect experience.

I have always loved going to Carrboro Vision. I met Dr. Dunn a couple of weeks ago. She is very thorough, kind , and had answers to all of my questions -and then some. I recommend her and this practice over all. Great staff!
I want to add that my experience with the doctor has always been excellent.( dr Friel) Unfortunately, the administrative side of the practice has been the complete opposite. Phone calls routinely go unanswered, my insurance was billed incorrectly, and I have experienced several issues with ordering my glasses through the office. These repeated problems have made what should have been a straightforward process unnecessarily difficult.
The optometry side of Carrboro Family Vision was fine, but I was unimpressed with the sales side of the business. I told them I had new insurance and gave them my new card, yet they still somehow billed my old insurance, which was still active but had less coverage. I had to address the issue in person since they wouldn't return my calls. This extra visit took about an hour of waiting, talking to different people, and some fuzzy math. Looking at my receipts during this process revealed my biggest complaint: They secretly add a $45 insurance plan to every pair of glasses they sell. That is seriously misleading, if not predatory. These insurance plans are money-making scams for companies that know you will likely never need them. And when you do need them, they often require deductibles or other fees. Speaking of which, where's the pamphlet with the fine print? What am I even getting for this $45? So, they admitted fault and offered a refund of the difference in insurance costs (and the $45 predatory insurance plan). But before refunding me, they sent a text saying "the glasses would take an additional 2 to 2 1/2 weeks at the lab" if I didn’t stick with my original order/insurance. This made zero sense since nothing about the order changed - only how the insurance paid for part of it. This tactic was proven to be utter BS when my glasses were ready in under a week. And finally, everyone knows frame and lens prices are hyper inflated at the optometrist, but if you want some proof, just compare the cost of your first pair of glasses with any additional glasses you buy from them. The first pair is likely heavily discounted through your insurance and may still cost $400, for example. But if you buy a 2nd pair of those same glasses without insurance, they will cost much less than the first. How does that work if there isn't some serious price gouging on the first pair? It also bugged me that they steered me towards more expensive frames and allowed me to completely miss a wall of much cheaper frames around the corner (which I discovered later when dealing with the insurance issue above). They also did a terrible job explaining all the expensive coatings and materials they allegedly use in the glasses. I may continue to see their optometrists, but I won't be purchasing glasses from them unless they fix these anti-consumer practices.
Used to have ok experience with this one, but things got messed up since ownership changed. Annual check up fee tripled for my son, messed up appointment so we have to cancel and make a new appointment months later, then they accused us of expiring the lenses just want to charge more. Carrboro Family Vision, we guarantee we burn your money faster than gas!
