My mother underwent treatment at Comprehensive Retina Consultants with the hope of improving her vision, yet more than a year later her eyesight is worse than before. While the medical outcome itself is disappointing, what happened during her most recent visit was even more concerning. My elderly mother was not advised to arrange transportation home despite undergoing a procedure that left her vision severely impaired afterward. When I arrived to pick her up, she was effectively unable to see. Even more troubling, there were several other elderly patients outside in similar condition, appearing disoriented and struggling with their vision as well. It raised serious concerns about whether patients are being adequately informed of post-procedure transportation requirements. Wanting to better understand what happened, I called the office in a calm and respectful manner. Rather than receiving empathy or an explanation, I was met with a defensive response. The conversation quickly became focused on assigning blame instead of addressing legitimate concerns about patient safety and communication. When I pushed back on that characterization, the representative ended the call by hanging up on me. No medical practice can guarantee outcomes, and I understand that. What patients and their families should be able to expect, however, is clear communication, proper preparation for procedures, concern for patient safety, and respectful treatment when concerns are raised. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of those expectations.

Dr. Kaushal and his team are the G.O.A.T.S! (Greatest of all time). I swear it’s like God blessed him with the power to fix eyes. My mom has been seeing Dr. Kaushal for about 2 years now, and I am amazed at the work he has done for her. We really thought we were in a hopeless situation with her eyesight. She wasn’t able to see anything, but he has been able to repair the damage caused by diabetes. Dr. Kaushal and his team are the coolest, nicest, most knowledgeable team around. If you are able to become a patient of his, consider yourself lucky! Having a wait time of 1-3 hours at most is EXPECTED!! Bring a snack, eat before your appointment, bring a book or something to do while you wait—I promise you it is worth it. Dr. Kaushal and his team take their time with the patients. Would you rather be at a doctor’s office where the doctor sees you for 5 seconds and doesn’t fix your health issue? Or would you rather wait a little bit and have someone take their time, inform you about what’s going on, and fix the issue? Bring a jacket if you get cold easily, sometimes it can get chilly. If you need to access something on your phone, you will need to step outside to use your cell phone service as there isn’t WiFi available Again, if you are lucky enough to become a patient with Dr. Kaushal, you will not regret it—he knows his stuff!!

Dr. Kaushal is truly one of the best professionals I have encountered in my life. He treats every patient as an individual, not just a revenue source, and approaches his treatment of you with you being a part of the team. I have gone to him for 5 years for management of my macular degeneration, and the technique he uses for his injections is superb: within 5 hours my eye is back to normal: no pain, scratchiness or irritation, so unlike what I have experienced in the past. Yes, you have to wait your turn to see him, but you get a vision screening, dilation drops, glaucoma test, and pictures of the back of your eye before going into the exam room. He also lets me take pictures of the test results for my personal records so that I can compare them to previous exams, something I was never privy to at previous practices. I would wait a whole day to see him if needed, and have actually driven to each of his offices (the Villages, Inverness, Gainesville- now Newberry, and my local office of Ocala) when issues have come up with my eye and he wanted to see me immediately. My mother is now a patient of his, as is my husband. I trust my vision totally to Dr. Kaushal and his wonderful staff!

Dr. Kaushal has been treating my wife and mother-in-law and now I am a faithful patient of his as well. I recently (last month) had a cataract surgery performed by Dr. Kaushal and his skill and attention to detail are exemplary. His pre-surgery instructions were well-put together and reflected the expectations of the hospital, so there we no hiccups in the procedure. Post surgery he called the next day ( a Saturday) to check up with me as he had promised. I'll be having the other eye done in October and will no doubt receive the same professional treatment.
