Costco Optical

First of all, the optical staff at Costco were excellent. However, the ophthalmologist Dr. Chen rushed us through the process and ended up giving both me and my husband the wrong prescriptions. We went to another ophthalmologist and she confirmed that the exam results were incorrect.

Needed list eyeglasses replaced. Had prescription in my wallet. Picked out “Police” frame. Clerk checked out fit and rang up my order. Took maybe 15 minutes tops. Glasses will be mailed to me. Happy customer!

Michael is fantastic. I was next in line and someone tried to cut in front of me, he had them sit back down and helped me instead. He fixed my glasses in minutes. Wonderful service!!! Thank you Michael

Great value. Yes, staff turnover and young staff may take longer or not handle the public as well as hoped, but if we are patient they will take good care of us. Optometrists are helpful, and caring. Busy place, so book your appointments in advance if possible, though walk ins are treated well. Good luck!

I would give the independent optometrist office at the Novato Costco zero stars if I could. I made an appointment a week ago for Wednesday of this week. 100% sure it was made for Wed, I even wrote it down on my calendar immediately after walking out of the office inside Costco. I think the receptionist must have heard Wed but for some reason mistaken it for 11/26 instead (Tue). I arrived today (Wed) to check in and the receptionist (another person) tells me that they don't have an appointment for me. Then he says my appointment was for the day before and that I was a "no show" and it's not possible to see me today even though I live 25 minutes away and took time off work. Trying to be cordial, I didn't blame the previous receptionist, but I really wanted to see if I could get slotted in today somehow. Instead, the guy says something to tune of "well we're not mad that you didn't show up yesterday". Excuse me? I should be the one who is mad that the employees in your office are incompetent. You guys screwed up the appointment and then wipe your hands clean and now blame it all on the customer? Forget it, I didn't bother rescheduling and I don't plan on ever returning to this optometrist. Plus, they've doubled the exam fee since last year. Wouldn't be shocked if they went out of business soon based on the way they do their jobs. All the receptionists at this location should be fired to be honest.
