Our initial visit experience was stellar. From Kristy at the front desk, Jessica doing screenings, Scott taking our history, Brian getting us to scheduling, and setting up our appointments (I don't remember her name but she was wonderful), every single person we encountered was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Finally, Dr. Hassan thoroughly explained the procedure, let us know our options, and patiently answered every question we had. He is so kind and a wonderful listener. I can't imagine anything that would have made our visit better. We felt welcome and valued. Thanks CVP Centerville!

A bit of a story... Almost a year ago I was experiencing shadows in my peripheral vision. More disturbing, it got worse over 4 days... I consulted Grok which gave me probabilities with every additional detail provided and with every response insisted I urgently seek medical attention, even offering to find one. As an existing patient I called CVP and asked for an immediate consultation. This was noon, July 3rd, a Thursday, last year. The office was closed on the 4th... The best they could do was the following Tuesday. I went anyway. I told the desk I'd just wait in case anyone was freed up for a quick review. It wasn't long before I saw Dr. Hasan who after the exam, said, I think I'll have you see the retinal specialist... As I left his office he said, "Good luck". I didn't know exactly how to take that:) By now it was mid-afternoon and I saw Dr. Buerk. I heard him muttering to his assistant, feverishly transcribing on the computer, some words that I recognized from the Grok conversation. He turned to me and said I needed surgery and they needed to coordinate a surgeon, a team, a hospital and get some prescriptions. He directed me to the surgeon scheduler. And he disappeared. When I went back to the waiting room the office was empty. Everyone, including the desk had gone home. I patiently waited the scheduler who I saw on the phone, shuffling papers. I didn't know what she was working on but figured she'd eventually get to my case. After nearly an hour I was called in and she went over the enormous details and prep I would need, including finding a support person and starting prescriptions. Finally I got to the point which concerned me. I asked when it could be scheduled, hoping for earlier in the following week. Either way it was a long weekend away. She looked at me and said. "You're going in right now. You have an hour to arrange support, get your prescriptions and get to the center." We barely made it in time to be greeted by intake procedures and subsequently by the surgery nurses and Dr. Wilkes, another member of the team. Oh course I'm impressed by the entire team's professionalism, coordination and grateful, of course, because a delay could have easily resulted in partial or complete blindness in that eye. I don't think you can find a better example of dedication to their craft and purpose which this team, every single one working together, exemplified. And a shot out to Grok as well.
I can't objectively give CVP a 1 star since I've experienced the worst ophthalmologist practice Dayton has to offer, and CVP is certainly a step above that. Still a lackluster and rather bad experience looking back, especially after going to a university to get the treatment I needed. It's like night and day. No complaints about the front desk staff, but a few of the assistants were borderline rude and seemed like they didn't want to be there, like they hate their job. For example, I was there for two visits a month apart. I asked nicely on the second visit if we could forgo the letters test since there was clearly no change in my vision and one of my eyes was in bad shape so it was straining to do. The assistant damn near threatened dismissal if I didn't do the test. It was a jarring moment. Wait times are absurd. I think all my times there I spent no less than two hours each. I actually think the laser jobs the doctor preformed were my fastest appointments, with the examinations I could be sitting in the waiting room for upwards of 45 minutes after dilation. then another half hour in the room. The ophthalmologist I saw is Dr. Wilkes, he is pleasant enough and seems very good at his profession. The treatment for my condition is injections and lasers, and I can barely do needles in my arm let alone eyeballs. He pressed for injections but since that was off the table because they don't have the capability for anesthesia, he lasered my really bad eye and did a great job. He then dismissed me to "as needed patient" since I couldn't do injections consciously, which I understand, but he also wouldn't advise me where I could go to get the injections under anesthesia. To top it off, after I got my first round of injections at the university, which my wife and I had to call around and find for ourselves btw, I was told my right eye would still need some laser work and I could get it done locally where I got my left eye done if possible, to save us a 2 hour trip. I signed a consent form for medical information sharing and all that, but CVP and Dr. Wilkes refused treatment, citing "you didn't follow the doctor's recommendation" over and over, even though I kind of did through a different practice. So for those reasons I can't go higher than 2 stars. If there were halves I'd go 2 1/2 just because Dr. Wilkes is very good, if you don't argue with him about eye injections at least. So for those of you out there like me deathly afraid of needles, just know there are options and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Over book. Charge you for being late or cancelling your appointment but you sit it their waiting room for an hour or more after your appointment time
Dr. Wilkes is such an amazing doctor. He is very good at explaining your condition or diagnosis and formulating a treatment plan. Unexpected eye loss is scary on top of hearing medical terms you may not be familiar with. He always is kind, patient, professional, and understanding. He listens and actually cares. He is very good at answering all of my questions. I recommend him for any retinal issues!
