I was at work and my riggt eye went dark. I went to regular eye dr..he sent me to Dr. Chawla. I was scared I was blind. I have a severe hemorage in back of eye and cataracts. He gave me shots in eye.. Sight came back. My left eye also has several hemorages in it. I also have severe cataracts in the left eye. I currently only see out my right eye. Left is covered with cataracts. I have been going to him for over 1 year. I trust him. He is kind and caring. I read the reviews and I agree about the time of wait. But he is worth the wait. Dont schedule anything else for day of your appointment. I drive there from Holley. I will have cataracts surgery soon. He is getting the hemorages stable first. I am so thankful my retina is still attached. I trust him enough to let him put needles in my eye. Treat him kindly. He will be kind to you. He has alot of patients so it takes time to get to your turn. Lunch time for them is from11:30 to 1pm if the 3 of them go at their designated time. They go 1 at a time Not all 3 at same time. Keep that in mind also. I will keep him as my optometrist as long as he is here. The first photo is after I got sight back in right eye i got a surface hemorage from shoveling snow at work. and Dr gave me eye drops to put in until it went away. Second photo is of opening the eye to prepare for the shot. Rita Jolly

Initially visited Dr. Chawla for a spot my optometrist found on my retina. While office was not well organized and not the cleanest, Dr. C. came recommended and seemed confident that I was not suffering from any form of degeneration (I was in my early 30s when I saw him for the first time). I saw him several times after that for checkups to monitor the spot in my left eye. He never found a change. Seems at some point the office became a bit cleaner and better organized, although last time I was there, the secretary was also doing eye drops, etc., which I though was odd. Then several years ago, at a routine exam, Dr. C casually said, "Yes, so I see some changes," which he didn't immediately explain. After asking him what was going on, he again very casually said, "Degeneration of the retina." And that was that. No further explanation. I called the office the next day to ask him to send me an official diagnosis so that I could better understand what was happening. That letter arrived a couple of weeks later, and it said I was suffering from something called RPE atrophy in my RIGHT eye. (Reminder: the spot is in my left eye.) He had never mentioned this diagnosis. But now I was worried about the very crude, pencil on paper drawings he would do in my chart after exams. A bit of research told me RPE atrophy is incurable and leads to blindness. So, in an absolute panic, I set up an appointment for a second opinion and spend the ensuing weeks thinking I was going blind, only to hear from another optometrist from U of R (Chawla is not affiliated with U of R, thankfully) that what I had was not RP atrophy, that is was something called a focal excavation, that these things are typically stable, don't lead to blindness, and not to worry. Oh--and the spot is indeed NOT in my right eye, as Chawla's diagnosis suggested. Bottom line--Chawla is no longer my doctor. I drive past his practice every now and then and always wonder how many others have been treated the same way. We're fortunate to have many other capable optometrists to choose from in this area. My recommendation is to find someone else. Hope this review helps a few people make the right decision for their eye care.
The medical field turned patients into customers, Dr Chawla will always treat you and make you feel like a patient. Your vision is his top priority. He is a top Dr in his field and you will immediately recognize this by the care and professionalism you will receive. He is highly recommended.
Dr Chawla stayed late on a Friday to drill a piece of metal out of my eye. I highly recommend.
Took excellent care of my wife who had a corneal abrasion. Very attentive and professional. You are in great hands seeing him.
