Negligent Dr. Jones failed to send in a prescription to CVS after diagnosing me with a minor eye infection and as a type 1 diabetic, treatment is urgent. My appointment was at 2:30, check in staff was fine. The guy who assessed my vision first and did intake was really nice. Experience was going well, even the actual exam with Dr. Jones. It was quick, looked at my eye and sure enough diagnosed me quickly with a minor infection. He asked what pharmacy I use, which was clear that he was sending a prescription in. He also did not even tell me what medication he was prescribing. I’m used to doctors sending scripts immediately on the spot. He was using his computer when asking me these questions so I assumed he had sent it in. I ran a few errands, shortly before 4pm, I went into CVS to see if my prescription was being processed. I had no notifications from my CVS app saying they were working on one so I was confused. Friendly tech said she would call to ask about the prescription. Around 5:30, I decided to call Dr. Tavel again to verify the prescription for the medicated eye drops were sent to CVS, Chaz (I think that’s their name) did not even verify my name after I said “I was in earlier for an eye exam and was diagnosed with a minor eye infection, I want to make sure the prescription made it to CVS..” all they asked was the correct branch to send it to. How are you going to make sure which patient’s prescription was sent if you don’t ask the name?! They said they would go ask the doctor to make sure. I was put on hold for 5 freaking minutes. After they finally came back on the phone, they said “So, I can’t ask the doctor because he is with a patient.” Took you about 5 minutes to figure that out? The store closes at 7:30 btw. At no point from when I ended that phone call, to 9pm when the CVS branch I use closes, was the prescription sent in. This is negligence 100%. The doctor was made aware of me being a Type 1 Diabetic which makes me have a compromised immune system. Now I am I day behind (possibly more depending) treating this eye infection. I thought it was very strange that I wasn’t given a visit summary either. This was my first time visiting this store, I will never visit again! I only went to Dr. Tavel becuase it was Thursday (2 days) before 4th of July weekend and getting into anywhere else would have been very difficult. Completely unacceptable When a medical provider leaves a Type 1 Diabetic in limbo with an active infection because they failed to follow up on a critical prescription, that isn't just a minor glitch—it is a serious failure of patient care. If you ever visit here for emergencies-ask for a visit summary and ask for a written prescription instead.

I was very happy with my experience at Dr Tavel. This staff was very courteous, respectful and helpful. Doctor Howser was awesome. I was very confident that I got a good eye exam and he answered all my questions. I will definitely return in the future for my eye exams and ordering new glasses.
The Dr and staff were all courteous, professional, and made me feel at home during my visit for an exam and to purchase my first full time glasses. I am totally satisfied with time spent there and the care I received. If you need vision care I recommend Dr Tavel in Eastland Plaza.
I highly recommend this place!! The people here are so incredibly nice and helpful!! They spent a lot of time with me helping me find the perfect pair of frames! From sizing to color to brand, they are extremely knowledgeable! & I ended up going with an adorable little clear frame from Kate Spade (whom I love). Even the case is super cute! (Pics included) Okay, now for the eye exam part... it was an absolute breeze! I wasn't sure what to expect as I am new to all of this. (I developed astigmatism due to some trauma, so I now need some readers to help combat the blurriness.) The whole exam was very quick, yet thorough. They even have a retina scanner at this location! I thought it was really cool! There is this very bright flash of a green light, and for a split second, you can see your blood vessels! I thought it was pretty cool anyway 😉 Everything about my visit was wonderful, and if you're looking for a great place with even better people, then this is your place!! (Plus, they accept walk-ins!!!)
Dr. Tavel provides excellent service and offers a variety of options for glasses and contacts. I have been a customer there for over 10 years and they have always taken good care of me!
