When I walked into the office there were a lot of people in the waiting room and I was worried. Then they have a new check in system and I was more worried but the check in system was very quick and my wait was just a few minutes. I was very happy with how organized and expedient the whole team was. Dr. McGraw examined my eyes and listened to any concerns I had. It was a very positive experience.

It’s evident that the current practice has grown, the waiting area isn’t sufficient for all patients to sit while waiting for their appointment, expect a long wait before being seen. Elderly patients and patients with disabilities are unable to find a seat for their appointment. There are not sufficient exam rooms, which contributes to the crowding. Time for a bigger space or booking less appointments per day. Expect to wait a very long time to get through your appointment.
My issue has nothing to do with overbooking and long waits - I left this practice with no vision in my right eye and barely any in my left eye. After my initial visit it was determined I needed cataract and glaucoma surgery in both eyes. My eye with the poorest vision, my right eye, was scheduled for surgery first. After driving to Chico and having the surgery, I was scheduled to have rechecks every few weeks. At each visit I was told "after the swelling goes down" , I should start to be able to see out of my right eye. Finally, at what would be my last visit, I was still unable to see. I was informed rather abruptly by Dr. Hamar that my vision wasn't going to get any better and that this was as good as it would get. So, needless to say, I have not gone back to FREC or scheduled surgery on my left eye, (and I don't plan to, at least not with this office). A bill for my surgery for $21,000 arrived recently for the surgery on my right eye. I still cannot see out of my right eye and I wear a contact lens in my left eye. This contact lens is based on a prescription I received over 10 years ago. They didn't bother to check my left eye to see what prescription contact lens would work better for me now, all these years later. I had such high hopes to be able to see again after this surgery. And the worse part is, I was never told by any of the doctors that the cataract/glaucoma surgery may not repair my vision. I was completely unaware of this possibility until Dr. Hamar said the vision in my right eye was as good as it was going to get - then he got up and left the exam room and I sat there trying to wrap my head around what he had just said. So, no surgery on my left eye for now, at least not until I find another eye doctor who knows what they're doing and who can advise patients on the potential outcomes, good and bad, ahead of time, not after the damage has already been done .
Excellent service. They were able to work me in quickly. Professional and courteous staff, quick rooming process. Dr. Hamar was very kind and understanding of my problems. Decent selection of frames in their glasses area. Can't ask for any more than that.
I went in for the first time to this business and I was very impressed. They could have sold me new glasses and I would have not known any different, but the doctor was honest and told me my difficulty in seeing was dry eyes and he gave me some steroids. They have earned my trust in business along with my family
