When i had my inistial visit the Dr himself was super nice, and initially was super easy to get in contact with. HOWEVER, since my visit I'm not sure if they started going through a staffing change or what it is! No one answers their phone calls, no one responds to their emails, and the patient portal has different contact information that still gets no response. I have called every single day this week, different times, waited and called again, called a different location and still no answer. The 2nd location has a different phone number but you get the exact same message and no answer. What should be a simple 5 minute phone call is being dragged out for whatever reason. Their voicemail just says "extention 1004, is on the phone" and then just silence. All I need to do is order contacts but becuase there's no prescription uploaded to my portal and I was never given a copy of my prescription; because they said when i left my appointment "it would be uploaded to my portal for my use", that makes this process basically impossible when their front desk doesn't answer the phone. They're open until 6 M-Thurs. and until 5 on Fri., but no one is at the desk. When I booked my appointment they had a great rating and all the reviews were nothing but great! Now within that time it seems everyone else is having the same issue.

I should’ve read reviews before scheduling an appointment, but unfortunately I picked this place because they carried the designer of frames I wanted to try on. Starting off, the girl who scheduled my appointment should maybe explore another passion than clerical work. My name is not difficult to spell and I spell it phonetically when scheduling appointments, and she got my first name wildly off, and spelled my last name incorrectly in two different ways between my record name and my email. Then, she put the complete wrong city and zip code for my address, and didn’t even take down my insurance. So I did double paperwork before my appointment, and THEN had to do it again when I arrived. Upon arrival, I was seen by a tech, then sent back in the hallway to wait for 30 mins for the doctor. After my appointment, I wanted to look at glasses, and was just told “you don’t have coverage call your insurance” and the tech walked away. I did have insurance and coverage, because they ran it to book the appointment. I left and called my insurance and they said nothing was wrong. When I called back to get a quote for the glasses I wanted, I gave them the designer, model number/SKU, and description, and the gal on the phone wouldn’t even make the effort to help me figure out what frames they were. She quoted me about $250 just for lenses. My insurance website is about $120 for the frames AND lenses. No idea why, and she couldn’t explain it to me. Made me feel like I was an inconvenience. My appointment was two weeks ago, and I have been waiting since then to get my prescriptions sent to me. Last week I was told they were never uploaded by the doctor and he was on vacation (vacay is understandable, not uploading my prescription the day I saw him, or even the week I saw him, is not), and today when I called to follow up, I was told they would get him to sign them and send them to me. This was about 6 hours ago and they’re closing now. I recently had a baby and my prescription got worse, so I really need to get new glasses and contacts, but I can’t do so without my prescriptions!
Very courteous staff and friendly/funny doctor. Convenient location! Mano Valderaz was thorough with the exam and explanations. Based on his feedback and recommendations for my I glasses, I could tell he cared. Highly recommend for Live Oak, Converse, and Universal City residents.
I’ve been coming here for about three years, and unfortunately, the scheduling has only gotten worse. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes past your appointment time every single visit. While the doctor provides good care, he often runs over by chatting, then rushes when it actually matters. During my most recent visit, as we checked out the doctor actually left for lunch before signing our prescriptions. I was forced to leave for another appointment (I could have missed because of the delay & had to pay a late fee of 50% plus lose the deposit for) without them. An employee asked if we wanted to wait for the doctor to return from lunch when I said I had to go to another appointment she offered to email the prescriptions to me. To make matters worse, 2 hours later the office then emailed a 'fill-in-the-blank' medical release form just to send the prescriptions we had already paid to receive. I could not print them from my phone while at my appointment and running a handful of errands. Requiring a mobile patient to print, scan, and return documents for a standard script is ridiculous. The staff is not welcoming and Zack, specifically, was dismissive. If you value your time and expect professional administrative service, look elsewhere. There are often clerical errors too.
This office charges extra for glaucoma testing and imaging, which is standard at other places. Be aware that they will charge you $40 more than if you go somewhere else to get the same testing. Despite being a “premier” office with my insurance, they apparently want to find a way to get more $.
