We’ve been going to Dr. Spencer for years, and there’s a reason his schedule is always full. Yes, there can be a wait, but that comes with seeing one of the best pediatric eye specialists in the area. His appointments are thorough, and he takes the time to get things right. If you want a quick routine eye exam, a retail optometrist is an option. Dr. Spencer serves communities that are often overlooked and even learned Spanish to better care for his patients. He also accepts Medicaid, which means he’s not getting rich off visits. His team is handling a heavy administrative load and lower reimbursement rates to provide this care. I’m surprised by some reviews about bedside manner or office aesthetics, which I find irrelevant. In my experience, the office is perfectly adequate and my kids even enjoy going there. What matters most is that Dr. Spencer has excellent clinical and surgical skills, is ethically grounded, and we are lucky to have him in Stuart.

I really wish I had read the reviews before bringing my child here. Our appointment didn't start anywhere near the scheduled time. The nurse seemed unsure of what she was doing while dilating my child's eyes, and it took three separate attempts to complete the process. Throughout the visit, we were constantly moved from room to room. The exam rooms appeared to be in need of a thorough cleaning, and the toys in the waiting and exam areas also looked dirty. When we finally saw Dr. Spencer, he came across as very rigid and robotic, almost as if he was reading from a script. He wasn't personable or reassuring, especially when discussing my child's vision. He made it sound like my child had an extremely severe astigmatism and farsightedness, which felt very alarming. Because of how extreme his assessment seemed, we decided to get a second opinion. I'm very glad we did, as the second doctor completely contradicted his diagnosis. Based on our experience, I would encourage other parents to be cautious and consider getting a second opinion before moving forward with treatment at this practice.
This was honestly one of the worst medical office experiences I’ve ever had. I brought my two-year-old in and immediately noticed how dirty the office was—both the waiting room and the exam area we were briefly brought into were noticeably unclean. When we went back with the nurse, the room itself was also dirty, which was extremely concerning for a pediatric setting. We were then moved to a second waiting area that was just as bad, with visible dirt and even pieces of hair on the floor. The staff was incredibly rude and unwelcoming, and I was required to pay $300 upfront before we even saw a nurse—which should have been my first red flag. The waiting areas were completely overcrowded, with not enough seating, and it felt like they were overbooking patients just to push people through. On top of that, it was uncomfortably hot. After waiting for an hour without ever being seen, I walked out. The only reason I’m not giving zero stars is because the manager I spoke with afterward was kind and refunded my $300 immediately. I would absolutely not return or recommend this office.
Absolutely horrible! If I could give zero stars I would. I come 45 minutes to see this eye doctor and a quick follow up appointment took over 2 hours. We even scheduled an appointment for as soon as they opened and it was already 4 other patients waiting. This is completely unacceptable not once did they even apologize for the wait or inconvenience. I will definitely not be bringing my child back.
Made the trip all the way from West Palm Beach they are so much better then the practice around me thank you all so much for making sure my daughter had the best care
