UPDATE 11/17/25 Dr. Powers is AMAZING! She is very knowledgable, thorough, takes as much time as you need and is very friendly. You can tell that she truly cares. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The team of Dr. Elizabeth Powers and Amanda Sunderland was truly amazing. Both were extremely knowledgeable, professional, thorough and very personable ... a rare combination these days. They took their time and answered any and all questions. I have never felt this comfortable at an eye doctor before. Dr. Powers especially made me feel like I had known her for years, even though this was the first time I had met her. She was very engaging.

Do you like pompous middle-aged Carmelites that treat Indianapolis normies like trash? If so, Dr. Lanter is the eye doctor for you!! Today’s experience here left me shaken and baffled. I called about a specific issue (I felt like I had something under my eyelid). After some checking, they called me back and told me they could help. I checked in and finally met with Dr. Lanter. He asked why I was there and things went south. When I stated I felt like there was something under my eyelid, he seemed to become uncomfortable, shifted in his chair (like someone uncomfortable), raised his voice and demanded that I submit to a complete eye exam. A coworker recently shared an experience about how their mother’s basic eye exam took HOURS at Lanter… I didn’t have time for that. I told him I hadn't really budgeted for that amount of time, as I was just on break from work. He became further condescending and raised his voice louder until I finally stood up and moved to leave. I asked how to get out to the lobby and the girl who was with us offered to take me. She seemed visibly shaken by the interaction she had just witnessed, much like I was. Once we were out of earshot of Dr. Lanter I asked her if that was normal. She stumbled in her response to me and stammered again when she turned to explain to the receptionist what had occurred. This was a disturbing experience. I will NEVER come here again and if someone ever asks for a recommendation for an eye doctor, I will forever share this story to discourage people from considering Lanter.
I have always enjoyed my appointments with Dr. Powers - she is very thorough and professional. The reason I just cannot recommend this office anymore is because of the front desk staff. I arrived at 1:20 for a 1:30 appointment, allowing myself an hour for time and wasn’t told until I went to the receptionist desk at 2:20 to inquire that there was an emergency appointment that morning. When I asked the receptionist why she didn’t notify me of this earlier by phone or at least when I walked in she became very cold and rude and told me I could reschedule. To be honest, after thinking about this I will be finding a new doctor. It does seem that every time I go into the Carmel office there are delays of at least thirty minutes and an air of snobbery. I also don't like the way they speak to elderly patients, impatient and abrupt on a few of my visits now. My time is also valuable. I didn’t even receive an apology. After 4 years as a patient I will unfortunately be seeking another provider. I was treated as if I didn't matter because losing me is no big deal - they have plenty of patients. I felt so disrespected and it seems to be a pattern with the office staff.
After relocating I was in need of a new eye doctor. Making an appointment was easy, the receptionist was pleasant and helpful and the opthalmic tech was extremely nice and punctual. Dr. Powers performed my exam and she was thorough and professional, I felt extremely confident in her skill and accuracy regarding my exam. Contact prices were competitive with online prices as well. Highly recommend the practice!
Dr. Lanter performed Lasik on me back in 2001- 22 years ago. It was extremely successful and just in the last few years, I have had to use readers and a Very mild adjustment for driving. I am very Happy with Dr. Lanter and thankful that I found him. Jim Gerard Jr.
